He seems inspired atm, did well at the worlds, I hope so.
Gould was so close to falling off the tour, he had to win a few of the world championship qualifiers to stay on, he managed to qualify for the Crucible, get to the last 16, now if he wins today he will be back in the top 30.
Hope he doesn't get bogged down
Selby won 9-8. It was a very good match. Shame Gould lost but he played well all week.
Yea, didn't see the final, but got the score, Selby always finds a way...
Tut tut not watching the final.
I usually watch any snooker, but I wasn't inspired to watch Slowby
Well done to Selby and Gould, back to the Championship League now
2 weeks till the English Open.
Is the English open early this year?
Naaa English Open is usually in October.
Oh Yeh, the months are all blending into one this year 😂
Finding Milton Keynes venue annoying, I know it makes no difference really watching it from home but there is just something about it which is boring me and it's really hard to explain.
Normally I start watching snooker once the ITV, BBC or Home Nations start.
I wish I did the same this year, I have zero interest in these Mickey Mouse tournaments.
European Masters is a decent tournament though to be fair. I'm just bored of the championship league.
I would like one European Major Title, one major Chinese event, Tour Championship, Masters, UK and Worlds as Main Events
Home Nations, Champion of Champions, Players Champions as mid events as well as a return of the Premier League
I would ditch most of the other events. Even if they exist they should be small and have very few ranking points and should be events that the big players can skip.
Oh yes and a proper World Cup event would be nice.
I'm happy with the tournaments they have. Just get rid of the championship league and replace it with The premier league.
It's only 5-6 weeks until the Champion of Champions on ITV 4
I suppose my point is that we have so many similar tournaments that you are just churning through all year
For example, we have the German Masters and the European Masters, what is the difference, it's the same old best of 9s, best of 11s semis, then best of 17 or 19 Final. Why can't we have a big Euro event (and a best of 23 Final for example)
Then we have Riga, Gibraltar, what's the difference, both are just glorified PTC events, who really cares about it? These events should be straight before or after the UK or Masters, not the Home Nation events which are flat 128 events that are much more important.
For China, we have the China Open, International Championship and China Championship. Again, why not at least make it clear what is the big China event and have a best of 25 Final, the other 2 can still be there but again they all seem very similar, in fact the China Open seems more like a glorified warm up event for the Worlds. No one wants to peak at the China Open.
We have this 1 year ranking events like Grand Prix, Players Championship and Tour Championship. Again why 3 events? Why not 1 big one? It just adds confusion for the viewer. All 3 events seem to have the same purpose.
Then we already have The Masters and the Champion of Champions. Masters have the top 16 (with the odd wildcard) and Champion of Champions is about all the Champions. So what is the Shanghai Masters? It just seems like repetition again.
Not one person has ever been able to justify why the Championship League is better than the Premier League. Again all I remember is some old farts from the original bbc 606 complaining about the Premier League shot clock and how it benefits Ronnie too much (even though Ronnie was dominating the Premier League well before the shot clock )
I feel if you know the big tournaments, you can give them more importance and you can fit your schedule accordingly. Having a clearer schedule will allow more people to get into snooker too. They can at least tune in to big tournaments with longer finals (UK should've always stayed at best of 31 Final). Mostly after the Worlds, most people that are mildly into snooker will just switch off until the UK or Masters.
I think it is good for the game though being a lot of tournaments, it's good for the players as they get an opportunity to earn more money, especially the ones that are struggling financially etc.
It is players choices if they don't wish to play in certain tournaments or not, Barry Hearn has never stopped anyone from doing that.
Also with the amount of European tournaments, there is Betvictor bonus where there will be £150,000 bonus for the player that performs the best in these tournaments so that's an added incentive for the players.
Also the same with the 3 coral tournaments World Grand Prix, Players Championship and tour championship, whichever player perform the best gets a bonus maybe an extra £150,000, so there are a lot of incentives for all players.
I guess with me because I love the game so much I generally admire all sorts of tournaments with the exception of the Championship league.
I agree that it's good to have many tournaments to give players more opportunities to win money and to win titles
I also agree that Barry Hearn said you can pick and choose tournaments.
However, you can't say to people to pick and choose but at the same time say "Well if your 1 year ranking is not here, you don't qualify for the Coral Series". This actually forces players to play tournaments that they would normally like to miss because if you don't play more tournaments, you end up missing the Coral Series of tournaments.
Secondly, I feel that a tournament like the UK Championship is not protected at all, you have 128 NI Open just before, a 128 UK Championship and a 128 Scottish Open. Scheduling there is ridiculous for the 2nd biggest event in the calendar. Why not 1 week off after the UK? Why not Riga or Gibraltar Open after the UK, meaning many UK Title contenders can easily miss this tin pot event?
I feel they are trying to mollycoddle the lower ranked players, trying to make it easier for them to win tournaments and matches, best of 7s, crazy schedule, allowing people who participate in everything to get some cheap points to qualify for the Coral Series.
You will never find new stars this way, never create new big rivalries this way, also if players are playing best of 7s and best of 9s for 90% of the year, how does that help them in the Worlds when there are mainly 3 or 4 sessions?
Giving people cash incentives is fine (although they have lowered it for maximums), you can allow these players to earn a good living, however I want proper snooker players not just players who want to earn a bit of money.
I think it's wrong that tinpot first to 7's, like Gibraltar & Riga actually count as ranking wins, that is ridiculous, & devalues the records of the greats, Judd might win 20 of these, but what will his standing be?
Judd doesn't usually play in Gibraltar and Riga though, he only played in Gibraltar this year because of the £150,000 bonus and had no idea what was going to happen with other events as it was when COVID starting getting bad in the UK.
