Brexit is commonly thought of these days as major divide in British Society. Leave voters and remain voters had different visions for the future of the United Kingdom, and immigration plays a key role in those visions. Remain voters are, on average, more socially liberal and pro-immigration while leave voters are more socially conservative and anti-immigration. It is now also well established that older people tend to be less favourable towards immigration and more likely to have voted for Britain to leave the EU, while those with more education are more pro-immigration and more likely to have voted remain (see e.g. Kunovich, 2004; Hobolt, 2016).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are the only country in history to vote to impose economic sanctions on ourselves and to remove our own rights and freedoms, in exchange for being able to tell Johnny Foreigner to “do one”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I genuinely don't think any UK government will stop migrant workers really, they can't afford to. See the plane loads of Romanians brought in to help with the harvest. Then you get into birth rates and longer term contributions..

It will just be under a worse more chaotic system as we know how f*cking incompetent Priti Patel and the Tories are.
The Brexiteers are going to go apeshiiiiiit when they see the news that another three million foreigners are coming to the UK.
Farage will be beside himself with grief.
If we let the Hong Kongers in can we fek the Romas off to get a bit of balance?

The sad part (for those that don't like immigrants) is that to fill the economic gap from restricting EU immigration they'll be forced to welcome workers from further afield (read non white, non European).
Sorry OP. But the country will be a lot worse off if they don't.

This has nothing to do with Brexit, Hong Kong isn't in the EU and the government are in control of the offer.
It's everything the brexiteers wanted

3 million more foreigners here would be f*cking hilarious though, exactly what the Brexit Gammon DIDN’T want.

Boris`s legacy. Take back control of our borders.
Hilariously Farage is parked in the English Channel, hoping to pick off the odd migrant coming by boat. Meanwhile three million will be flying in over him.

Hong Kong has only had 7 deaths from covid-19.
Why would they want to come here? 😄
OP.
It's not an invite, but a diplomatic statement.
To be fair, in the interest of balance I don't believe that the 41% whose priority was to restrict immigration when voting Brexit are all racist. I think a good chunk of them were misled to think that immigrants are somehow the problem. The state of the economy combined with some disgraceful headlines in the Mail, Sun etc have created a climate where people would rather blame the guy going to work with him for his deal in life than the government and banks.
If more people understood the economic realities of migrant workers, and also the decisions made by the government to impoverish the population with austerity measures, I don't think Brexit would've passed. It was incredibly close to be fair.
That's not to excuse the racists and xenophobes, but if you're reading this thinking 'I've no problems with foreigners I just wanted the UK to be stronger' read this and have a think about what that means. Maybe be a bit nicer to the foreign doctors, nurses, factory workers, delivery drivers etc you meet.
