"I've never seen one person on here mention it until we won the league. Now it is mentioned pretty much every day. Weird"
You're clearly implying that it's only become a subject of discussion because it's Liverpool who have won the league, GT.

My thoughts are, that I've never seen one person on here mention it until we won the league. Now it is mentioned pretty much every day. Weird.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You really believe that?
You guys really do think that different rules apply for Liverpool, don't you?
Sigh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don’t recall the same debate about it last season. Can’t recall it being an issue prior to that, aside from it being an opportunity to wind rival fans up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What debate?
Every time it happens, some people say they like it and others say it's pointless.
You really think this discussion is happening because of some sort of issue with Liverpool? Fack me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The debate about it being pointless. As I said it’s traditionally been used to wind up rivals. Always seen it as a sign of sportsmanship, like the losing team clapping the winners off in rugby, cricket etc.
Where did I say it’s happening because it’s Liverpool?
FieldsofAnfieldRd (U18971)
Didn't say you did say that. I'm asking what you mean by what you said.
And you really believe that no one has ever called it pointless before this year?
Jesus wept.

I'm saying I have never seen one person mention it. Which is 100% true.
I am saying I have seen it mentioned lots of times since we won it.
Which is 100% true.
Are you going to tell me what I have and haven't seen? Really?

And then you call it weird, as if your anecdotal evidence somehow gives this credibility.
What you were implying was quite clear GT - if you want to deny it then go ahead.

In one way I'm gutted we're not playing Liverpool in the run in. It'd be good for some of our players to stand there clapping seeing that their big rivals have won the league. They should be saying 'look if they can do it so can we'.

I said I don’t recall much debate about it in previous seasons. If there are articles out there in the media proving this wrong then great.
Don’t see why you’re going off on one about it. Chill out.
It's not often that we are able to recognise history in the making, but this may just be one of those unprecedented events in the history of humankind:
Winston is absolutely right thus far.
Winnie, you may as well quit while you're ahead. Surely even you've learnt by now that you'll end up losing the plot and getting mobbed by the Liverpool mob.

Annie, GT, the only reason it's never really been on your radar is because it's an absolute non-event for anyone who doesn't support the team being honoured.
Here we go indeed Fields.
You stock response to anything is to say 'did I say that?' and then argue about it for days... I'm done with you and that on here.
Just one thing though; you really need to understand that when you use words, people infer things from what you say. Things don't have to be literally said for interpretations to be taken.
It's quite reasonable to infer from what you and GT have said, that you believe this is being discussed because it's Liverpool who will receive the guard of honour - as if people who have an opinion on the matter only have it because it's Liverpool, and that they've not voiced that opinion before.
As I say, I'm finished with the circular, nothing arguments with you because that's pretty much all you do on here and it's a waste of time.
I would urge you to read this and try to learn from it, but you won't of course. Have a good day.

No I'm not, GT.
I'm telling you that drawing a conclusion from what you've seen is absurd, because you would never have noticed any comment about the guard of honour when it wasn't involving your club.
Common sense, I'd refer to it as.

“ Just one thing though; you really need to understand that when you use words, people infer things from what you say. Things don't have to be literally said for interpretations to be taken.”
This it where you went wrong with my comment. Well done for recognising it. You interpreted me as saying something I didn’t. I purposely didn’t mention Liverpool for the very reasons you highlighted.
I stand by what I said and the way it was meant. If you read too much into it, or took your one implication from it that’s your error, not mine.
No point in dragging the OP further off topic don’t you think?
*took the wrong implication
It's all very simple.
Guard of honours only really become an issue when it involves two fierce rivals. This one is a bit artificial, because as much as City and Liverpool have easily been the top two teams in England over the past couple of seasons, they are not really each other's nemesis.
The players themselves shouldn't have any problem doing this. Liverpool have won the title with plenty to spare; apart from enmities created between individual players, there's no reason at all City should feel particularly bitter or hard done by.
It's a gesture of sportsmanship that shouldn't even be an issue when it does involve two huge rivals, a Liverpool-United or Barcelona-Madrid thing, for example.
It's only because the media see an opportunity to bait fans into kicking up a fuss, thus creating an artificial controversy and pushing up their own click counters.
And Danny Murphy is a no-mark anyway. Why should anyone pay any attention to a man who is just going out of his way to create animosity?
