I dont know why people make such a fuss of it.
It has to do with respect and tradition to give the new champions of the League the honour.
End off.

Agreed - I don't think anyone really cares on here.
Apart from a handful of people who want to create a narrative that rival fans are wound up, which has been going on since it became clear Liverpool would win the league.
It's a tradition isn't? So why stop, it does no harm.

I honestly think it's 3 or 4 max. The rest have been understandably pleased with a bit of banter added, but all in good spirits.

Don’t recall too much fuss about it season on season to be honest. Aside from the usual wummery between rivals giving and receiving it.
I can’t recall a pundit being too outspoken about it previously and sparking so much debate.

you don't recall any issue about a guard of honour last season?
i wonder why that might have been? can anyone think of a reason why this wasn't an issue last season?

Don’t recall it being called pointless last season. If there’s articles out there by pundits I’d be glad to read them.
It’s a mixture of teams in the league showing a bit of sportsmanship and rivals having the opportunity to wind each other up. Don’t see the issue.

i did try to make it as clear as i could, without spelling it out to the letter, but apparently it was still just too cryptic.

So much debate where ?
This is the first article about it I've seen on this forum
This is from 2015 when Liverpool were going to face newly crowned Champions Chelsea, and is from a Liverpool website "This Is Anfield".
"The much-discussed guard of honour Liverpool will form for champions Chelsea may not fill Reds fan with too much joy, but it would be shameful if it didn’t happen, writes Henry Jackson."
This suggests it has been an issue of discussion before, specifically in this case, among Liverpool fans.

It reminds me of the Trump tactics.
Keep saying it, eventually people just start accepting it as truth and then we can all refer to it whenever we like.
'Do you remember how wound up rival fans were when we had a guard of honour last season. haha that was so funny'
Same thing was happening with the league debate.
Handful of people said they thought the quality of the league is lower this season. That turned into generalisations about how everyone says the league is crap.
I'm not sure if they realise they're doing it or not.
To be fair, the same was true of some people when United were winning leagues - it's not a club specific thing.

Amongst fans. There’s been a few comments, and this article after Murphys comments. Before though there were a few from particularly salty Spurs fans for some reason.
The BBC have just put an article going into detail about it off the back of Murphys comments. He’s definitely stirred the pot for no good reason. The debate itself is pointless.

the bbc are dreadful sh!t stirrers these days, it baffles me that they have retained a reputation for quality journalism, when they're just a red top with a bigger budget.
Murphy's comments really are daft. Yeah none of our midfielder's are as good as De Bruyne, but saying not fit to lace his boots like they're some mid table cloggers
Fabinho arguably gets into every side in the league, and Gini and Hendo would get into most.
Was there much debate about it being pointless this year?
