Pubs

It is all about common sense. Are you more likely to pick up or pass on the virus in a pub or at home/in the garden?

You can also factor in lifestyle. Are you around people daily? Do you see your parents etc etc. If any of those answers are yes then you shouldn't be going anywhere near a pub if you have an ounce of intelligence.

Me? Zero chance i go to a bar or restaurant for the foreseeable whilst this virus is anything but under control. Businesses are opening out of necessity not due to things now suddenly being completely safe.

I have some people on social media who have been at one since 11am.

Each to their own but I really don't get the rush to go back personally.

Would love to be able to go out for this match and have a few creamy pints of Guinness but not with this mandatory food thing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What’s the reasoning for that food thing? Is it to try an slow down you crazy Irish?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure Baz but probably. Guidelines are that to be served alcohol you must order a substantial meal worth at least €9.

Not sure if everywhere is enforcing this but I suppose I can see the logic. It likely stops people visiting 3 or 4 pubs back to back and getting p*ssed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably a bit of that and to put people off a bit. That said, probably a good idea to help pubs get back a lot of lost revenue, they’ll have been hit really badly.

Would be nice to have a relaxing pint in a local pub, but by the sound of it, it doesn't look like it would be.
We are off to Cornwall in a fortnight for 2 weeks, and have had to basically book everything for those two weeks ahead of going, so that will probably be my first pub visit.
Can't wait.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Last time I was in Cornwall, no Covid crisis on you had to book everything anyway, really difficult to get anywhere to eat if not booked for dinner.

Infact so much of a pita, I’ll go anywhere else Instead, even though it’s nice down that way..Can’t be facked having to plan ahead, holidays are about random shiiit for me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can normally walk into a lot of places in Cornwall and get a table there and then, but obviously evening meals at decent restaurants were always pre books.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not the year I was there, couldn’t get a meal anywhere without booking.that was right down penzance way..

Plus the gridlocked caravans on the way in going 2 mph up hill, taking forever.

No thanks. I’m not doing that again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Our cottage has a huge garden, and we have some of the best beaches in Cornwall within 20 minutes drive, so we'll be doing a fair bit of late evening BBQs on the beach when the crowds have cleared.

We are not allowed to go to pubs in Scotland because we have a much lower death rate than in England. I am guessing we need to get the rate up to the same level as in England before we open pubs.

Shameful to see that this pandemic nonsense is taking priority over the "eating is cheating" tradition.

So, just to clarify, you'll be hiding in your bunker until a vaccine is discovered, and anyone who doesn't join you in this is a "moron"?

My wife and her friend are going, our local dictate that you must book a slot and the owners have ensured theres measures in place.

Going for Sunday lunch tomorrow too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Any time limit in the UK?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Our local are doing 2 hour slots...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s reasonable, I think I’ll wait until the novelty dies down. Meeting a few mates the last Friday of this month so that will be my first visit.

Just outside St Issey, near Wadebridge.
Handy for Padstow, Port Issac, Constantine Bay Mother Iveys Bay, Treyarnon etc.
To be honest, it's such a narrow county, it doesn't really take much to get to anywhere.

Cinci, I think you’re being harsh.

Just like going to the shops, it’s possible to go to a pub or restaurant responsibly, particularly with outdoor seating.

I wa able to get pints in hotel bars over the past few days but was a guest. Heard the Garda will be checking in on pubs to make sure they're following guidelines, there's going to be an awful lot of uneaten food in irish pubs this weekend.

I am not hiding anywhere. I am out every day in the countryside walking and enjoying the great outdoors. But yes anyone going to a pub on day one is a moron.

You can be as responsible as you like, does that mean the virus cannot be passed on then? It really is simple. If there is a chance of the virus being passed on in a room of people then why go into that room given the current situation?

You could say the same about pretty much every business in the country, not just pubs.

You’re entitled to your opinion but calling people morons even if they’re following the rules is unfair imo.

Nice, you are in a good spot. Yeah, it doesn’t take long to get anywhere in Cornwall...except into the county during summer! I really liked at Agnes, seemed super chilled out.

Definitely.

At work i viewed a pubs bank account. It had 120k in it in March, 20k now. Crazy.

You have to book a time slot for a table at the pub? I take it this is only during matches screened?

As you say, if there's a smash on that A30, it's a fecking nightmare, but once your there, the roads are sound to get pretty much anywhere.
St Agnes is a great spot with Portreath, Crantock and Holywell Bay close by.

These are rules to help the economy though, not health.

I won’t go in a pub for a while, but will head to my mate’s restaurant where they have loads of outdoor space to do it well.

But that doesn't make people morons, does it?

Pre COVID, if you stay at home all day then you've less chance of dying in the short term.

Doesn't make it the best thing for everyone.

Ultimately it's the government's decision as to what can open and within what rules.

posted on 4/7/20

Not morons, but maybe not so aware of the risks still out there..... some people think following the rules makes them safe, but that’s certainly not true with 1m distancing in pubs
