Eric Bailly

It was dreadful from both him and Matic. He generally looks a good player when fit but always has that brain fart in him.

He’s a loon, plain & simple

I’ve never been a huge fan of Bailly. His style is too kamikaze and his body gets in very awkward positions which can cost him. There are good aspects to his game though.

That was all on Matic and since when did the shoulder count as hand ball?

Matic made him give a penalty away?

It shouldn't have been awarded as a pen anyway. People talk about the number of pens we get, but none have been as dodgy as that. Matic was offside for the 5th goal though, so swings and roundabouts

Thought he was a bit unlucky. Maguire have a stupid pass away, leading to us having to defend frantically and then Matic has done him with the pass. He didn’t have a lot of options other than to instinctively get something on it and it probably hit his shoulder. I also thought they showed that it was outside the box anyway...?

What the hell was he doing jumping in the air like that, unchallenged as well, and completely missing the ball anyway? It’s literally the biggest brain fart of the season from a CB.

There was a stat I saw yesterday that had us as 4th worst team for turnovers of posession in our own half. Norwich were the worst, Arsenal and someone else. We were next.

Looking at the VAR, his arm was in the box where the ball hit so I think it’s technically a pen.

I probably am not as upset with bailly as I should be thanks to #4 from greenwood

I missed the first 3 mins of the 2nd half and only saw the handball leading to penalty

there was a point where awb ended up the wrongside of the b'mouth attacker who was advancing on goal. I was expecting the worse and I was shocked to see bailly just casually shift through the gears and recover the ball in a way neither lindeloff and maguire can never do. Highlighting the importance of pace

If Bailly did that a crucial time he’d have been slaughtered.

CB is a tough position to come as a sub though and Matic certainly didn’t help him with the pass.

A bad pass from Matic but it’s not as if he had a striker on top of him, ball going away from goal, plenty of time to deal with it but decides to stick his arm out on the edge of the box
He has got ability but also has a bit of the “Lovren” in him
CB is a position we need to strengthen, A partner for fat head, Lindelof and Axel as cover, and if we can get any money for Bailly, Jones and Rojo then great

Like I said he hit it with his shoulder, it isn't a handball.

He was obviously trying his best not to give away a corner kick.

If that pen was given in our favour or to Liverpool for that matter the world would have been up in arms.

Pardon the pun.

Would be very interested to know Ole’s thoughts.

I suspect he knows Bailly isn’t going to be good enough and I wonder how he feels about the others.

Maguire worries me the most.

Not because he’s the worst of them but because at that price, he has to play. Even if it becomes clear it was a bad signing.

I don’t think any of our CB’s will get us back on the way to winning the PL. They’re not good enough.

I love Bailly too, but he just hasn’t kicked on now for 4 years in the side. Injuries have ruined him too.

I don’t think he’s been a bad signing at all. Overpriced yes but he’s generally been good.

Even more at fault today than DDG for the opener though and also for the goal against Spurs imo.

Yeh, I should say that I don’t mean bad signing in the sense that he won’t do a job.

But bad signing in the sense that we were hoping he’d be the key to our defence and I’m not sure he is.

I think unless we find the right partner for him - quite possibly at a high value - then we will struggle to hit the very top.

Was hoping Tuanzebe could be that but he looks like another Phil Jones right now.

Ain’t that the truth!

The other thing that worries me is if we have to defend deep because of a lack of mobility.

posted on 4/7/20

It was a silly decision but it hit his shoulder? Ridiculous to award a pen for that anyway, however bad the decision was he still wasent as bad as our 80mill man

posted on 4/7/20

I’ll stress again that the last thing Bailly needed after being on the pitch for 5 seconds was to make a recovery run to bail out Maguire and then a hard pass at neck height from Matic to deal with.

After that I thought he did well. You want your teammates to ease you into the game with a few nice and simple early touches and he got the exact opposite treatment.

posted on 4/7/20

Let's not make too much of it. Look at the scenario first. He's just come on, and gets a horror-ball backpass sent to him in an awkward position. It was unfortunate and I'm not going to blame Matic either - he's been mint lately. Sh*t happens - and we made up for it straight away.

Pretty much this. Shouldn't have been a penalty. That was chalked out by Bruno scoring when it should have been ruled out due to Matic being offside.

I don't think Bailly should be slaughtered for this.
