We've needed midfielders for years. If we don't sign at least one powerful, athletic midfielder we can forget about any progress.

So to justify 'the madness' we should repeat the exact same mistake?

Next CB we buy has to be a starter for the next 3+ seasons. No more stop gaps or promises please.

Not quite so prepared to hold back and write off Holding and Chambers, to accommodate that, as you. We only need a starter for 3 years, if they're definitively being written off as starting prospects. Because Saliba, I assume, is already going to be starting for the next 3 years. Can he TEACH, whilst still being able to cut it playing. Is the most pressing issue, not can he start for 3 years when we already have 3 CBs coming of age now, near ready to do that.

They're all pretty much ready to simply be led by good example and the rest takes care of itself. Calamity Dave, is not a GOOD example. Since he has been a defensive weakness in damn near every team he's played in. He's one of the first breed of defenders, picked more for the attacking attributes, than their defending ones. The fact a man who played with him doesn't think he's a good influence to keep around HIS club, when he takes over managing it. Is all you need have seen, to know it's a bad idea.
