Nemanja Matic

I’d argue we were a bit hasty doing that. Could have waited until next season anyway.

He’s been good this year but not so long ago most of us wanted rid of him.

He gets into the City and Liverpool team everyday of the week. Great player.

he's in good form, but seems like a fairly lengthy extension for a player already into his 30s. i'd have thought a 1 + 1 type extension would have been more appropriate.

Happy for Matic. He's been transformed - playing so well that we probably will not be in the hunt for another DM this summer. Similar type of player to Carrick who also kept it up @United until 35.

Probably it is a 2 year + optional extra year deal rather than a straight 3 year deal. Similar to the one Mata signed last summer.

When he goes there will be big boots to fill, literally, his feet are massive

He's not that old. Surely he's got another three years in him.

Really enjoying watching Matic at the moment, he is perfect for the team.

Perhaps because he had other offers it was now or never and we offered him a guaranteed two years instead of one and the option. Maybe it's what he wanted.

It was always on the table but we've seen it before with Matic that his form could fall off a cliff for months on end again and we're left wondering why we gave him a new contract.

Hopefully over the course of next season his form will be more consistent.

Yes his consistency is key next season.

He will be 32 this August. This make him a mature DM. We look a different team defensively when he’s playing.

Taking into consideration the abundance of youth in the current team, it is more than ideal having some experienced players of his status around. Like I said earlier he's been excellent of late, only hope he doesn't drop his form at the meantime or next season since now he has his 2-3 year contract. Surely his game time @United will be managed fairly well for the next few years and it'll be all good.

his experience and calm on the ball is vital, although sometimes he is too calm on the ball and gets pick pocketed

if anything this gives him some value if we want to sell him in the next 18 months

good move

I thought he had already signed a new contract earlier in the year.

We triggered his option of an extra year.

I hope those nob head Glazers don’t think this allows them not to spend on another midfielder this season.

I don't think we were going to bring in a midfielder anyway this summer, yet again.

The closest thing we could bring in to one is Grealish although he's not really a midfielder and I'm not even sure we'll go for him.

CB is priority surely

6 months ago, I would have been livid at this news. Now i think it is good news

matic is not perfect and also had a bad run of form. But my (and i think most people's) biggest gripe against him was he made the midfield cumbersome. I couldn't help but see him as a relic from mourinho type football in the same way i saw fellaini as symbolic of every problem under moyes.

watching him play alongside pogba+bruno I see a player reborn. And has someone said his experience will be useful for our younger dms be it McT, Garner or someone else

Matic throughout his United career has tended to go through sporadic periods of good form and then drop off again.

I'm waiting for the next drop. On form though he's a very useful player to have.

I think his drops in form are due to being knackered. He covers a lot of ground, for someone not blessed with a great deal of speed. So if he isn't rotated, I think he will go through another dip. His recent good form has coincided with lengthy periods of rest

He was garbage on the weekend though, put bailly in a bad position to give the pen away and have the ball away consistently in the first half.

Been better since Fernandes signed though, but who hasn’t? Strikes me as one of those who plays when during contract negotiations.

Probably done it to secure his value in case we see interest this summer and decide to replace him.

Alternatively, we have a role model of an intelligent, highly experienced player with a superb attitude on the bench, in the dressing room and on the training ground for the next few seasons.

It’s a Mata of an extension. Great person to have around the club for the kids.
