I don't think Walker and Mendy are good enough. Mendy more so than Walker, although even he has always had his flaws. Plus Man City can't just focus on their defence, they need to keep the other end of their team fresh and not let that stagnate. On top of that there's no guarantee Foden can replace Silva and Aguero is getting old. Now is the time for them to rebuild and Liverpool are a team that's in its prime now. It won't be easy for Man City to challenge Liverpool considering this.
The logic is that if you compare Man City's defence to Liverpool's, or Bayern Munich's, or Juventus' or any other excellent team, you'll see that they fall short. That's why they need new players in that area.

At some point they then need to find a replacement for Aguero, yes but that isn't now. They have quality midfielders and wide players and a good mixture of youth and experience.
Guardiola himself has stated he is confused what has went wrong and it is a mystery for a lot of people. For me it was likely a number of factors but the main one was disrupting both the midfield and the defence at the same time by moving Fernandinho out and bringing in a lesser quality to cover the defence in Rodri. They haven't had problems scoring goals.

I think this was their issue this season definitely
City have been punished heavily for individual mistakes this season, like more than average.
I'm not sure if they're making more mistakes than average and cba to check fully but that's how it seems.
The goal yesterday is a great example. That lad hadnt scored in over a year and he goes and whips in a first time 35 yard lob

I'm not a Liverpool fan.
Every club will take the same hit proportionally, but Liverpool's success over the past couple of seasons means their exposure has skyrocketed. This past couple of years firmly in the footballing spotlight means they'll be printing money for a few years to come. Their revenues will be moving closer and closer to United's and City's over the next few years. (Not to mention that City will be finding it harder and harder to keep pulling barely-believable sponsorship deals out of the bag.)

they are not the same as a city or Chelsea during the early roman years.
they signed a kit deal which gives them a great chance to pull in good money but again its potential and needs an accounting year to be fully amortized and recognized.
they went out early in the cl and obviously don't get an invite to the WCC, you get about 1m for winning the pl as opposed to coming second thanks to our collective bargaining thing.
lack of match day revenues at one of the largest and busiest stadia will hurt them.
im just struggling to fathom how next season will be a huge spurt in revenue as next season will be based on what they earned this season.
next season they will get the base of the kit deal only, no WCC money so where is this rocket??

You miss the point when you talk about outright revenues. They're relative to what other clubs rake in. Liverpool are going to take the same kind of hit that all the other major clubs will in terms of gate receipts. These and prize money are only two of a club's revenue streams, but the big clubs nowadays take huge amounts from commercial operations. Two CL finals, the PL title and the race to the post last year mean that Liverpool have been bang in the spotlight for three seasons running. This always has a deferred effect in terms of global following and, consequently, allure for sponsors.
The longer you go without major successes, the harder it becomes to keep attracting the kind of following you do when you're winning. Liverpool have entered a virtuous cycle of results that will have the opposite effect. Half a decade down the road they will still be reaping the rewards of this current phase of success.
