Let say for argument sake they are found guilty. Then surely the premier league will need to act as well. What punishment could they hand out?

Depends on the details, they’re completely different sets of regulations.

The PL FFP rules may not be exactly the same as UEFA's so it wouldn't automatically lead to them being found guilty of PL rules.

If the investigation was completed and they were foind to have breached rules then punishment could range from a warning, a fine, a points deduction, or stripping them of their 2014 title.

I’m sure the premier league will be looking at this to see what happens.

Reduced to one year, it's what they do.

Regardless we need to go for 3rd. It has a signalling effect.

This. If it is upheld I hope none of our players or manager has a 5th is good enough attitude.

5th isn’t good enough regardless of whether it gets CL or not.

I get the notion, but there will be a tendency to lose a bit of motivation to win every game. Especially as we have such a hectic schedule, and a massive FA Cup tie with Chelsea, so we could see more rotation and less intensity if the FA Cup, then Europa, become the main focus of our season.

I hope they're successful in their appeal, not because I like City, it's just it will pi$$$ their rivals off no end.

Absolutely no idea, hoping they maybe have to take a year out of Europe just to allow some other teams in (ie Leicester in the CL, possibly Sheffield United sneaking the last Europa league spot) but not too bothered if they don’t.

I'll be happy to take a year out so we can concentrate on the league

There was no PL FFP during the period under consideration.

People sometimes forget what's on trial here. It's not FFP itself but rather, the source of the Etihad sponsorship funds.
Personally, I am pretty confident that it would be nigh impossible for UEFA to obtain required evidence to make the accusation stick. Hacked emails alone is not proof of guilt. They'll need to provide documents which shows the funds being transfered from the shiekh to Etihad then to City.
Leterme, the failed politician. led UEFA into a wild goose chase I believe all because he wanted to please certain clubs/individual. The guy should be fired if CAS decides in our favour.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hacked emails can be perfectly acceptable, especially if they were internal emails not meant to be seen by any third parties. The standard of proof at CAS is lower than in a criminal court so it doesn't have to be proven "beyond reasonable doubt".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
emails alone is not sufficient proof that a crime has been committed. You'll need more than that to get a conviction in any court.

Um, they aren't being accused of a crime. They are being accused of breaking the rules of a sporting organisation. Even if it was a crime, a verified email from a senior member of the club admitting it would be pretty good evidence.

Yes there was. Hence the PL beginning an investigation.

They will serve at least 1 season ban IMO.

City were never going to take a 2 year ban lying down so you would expect UEFA to have considered what CAS opinions would have been, before issuing a 2 year ban.

Pure guessing game at this stage isn’t it. Will the content ever be put in the public domain 🤷‍♂️

They should extend the ban just for the cheek of Manchester Cheaty appealing. Like they used to do when you frivolously appealed a red card

Cheaty has like 2 fans and I bet shirt sales go into the millions too. Such a fake wannabe big club

Cheating vvankers

So City aren't a rival, I support a lower league club, fingers crossed they maybe joining the big boys.

Haven’t read the whole thread, so apologies if someone has already pointed this out, but City were found guilty on *two different* charges:

- of falsely inflating sponsorship revenues when making submissions as part of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) compliance process;

- of breaching regulations by failing to cooperate in the investigation of the case by the Club Financial Control Body (CFCB).

If CAS don’t find enough evidence to ratify the decision on the first charge, they might well on the second.

City openly refused to cooperate fully with Uefa, tried to get the entire investigation stopped repeatedly, and accused the CFCB of leaking details of the investigation to the press. All of that I would say is uncontroversial and incontestable.

Personally, I have no idea whatsoever about whether the depth and quality of evidence on the first charge will meet CAS’s standards.

On the second charge, I cannot see CAS overturning Uefa’s verdict. The evidence is clear.

As such, I think we’ll see a minimum one year ban.

I would say it is contestable, where are you getting we openly refused to comply from? Your point about the leaks from the CFCB, CAS has already said that that had merit btw.

How about refusing to discuss any of the hacked material?

Or...

“Khaldoon said he would rather spend 30 million on the 50 best lawyers in the world to sue them for the next 10 years.”

Or...

“UEFA doesn’t respond to anything other than aggression” and a lawsuit against auditor PriceWaterhouseCoopers “could destroy the entire organization within weeks.”

“If PWC was under threat, you could then imagine them suing UEFA for damages and, if they collapsed, all their creditors suing UEFA too.”

posted on 11/7/20

The internal response to the investigation appears to have been, “Right, how do we completely destroy UEFA?”
