You've got to think if Lampard got the Chelsea job based on missing out on promotion from the Championship with 1 year in charge, then managers who actually DO manage promotion and then challenge for Europe when in the PL certainly do deserve a chance at a big club.

Based on the squad he inherited and how much the team have improved, along with being the form team of 2020, Ole at least deserves to be in the mix for this, doesn’t he?

Three horse race imo.

If there was a most improved then Ole would be, but manager of the season not for me. Had too poor of a start to get it

Hughes and Pardew have never been given a top job, have they?

And Moyes was given one, but messed it up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry I meant more the jobs a tier below if you like, Newcastle, Everton etc. Surprised none of those seem to make a move on managers like Wilder or Dyche

Yeh, fair point although maybe they do behind the scenes - wasn't there big rumours about Dyche to Everton a while back?

Fair point.

But we all know Lamps got it for who he was to Chelsea. And to be fair he’s done a good enough job so far.

I agree the old school Allardyce, Moyes etc are no good for a big job as their negative tactics are not effective at clubs where you're expected to win.

However, the new brand are playing progressive football. I'd happily have either Potter or Wilder considered as Jose's replacement in the summer. These new manager's are phasing out the dinosaurs thankfully.

That was evident when I sat there and watched us get trounced at home to your boys... one section of the stadium seemed very happy with our progress!

Yes I know that was part of it.

You can look at one or 2 other examples though. Rodgers got the Liverpool job based on finishing mid-table and did no better than Wilder did at Swansea. Poch did less at Southampton to get a job at Spurs. Obviously style of football is another factor. I'd like to think though that these managers would try and adapt their style with better players and more money to spend.

Or stupid. Noting most the Man U fans on here I'd say stupid is the more plausible explanation 😅

You could come to that conclusion.

The problem with that is that the people who were actually joking might conclude something similar about the person who failed to recognise a piiss take when he saw one.

The struggles of a forum, hey

In almost any other year wilder gets it easily but you can't win the premier league in a record number of games, being the earliest ever team to 30 wins and not win manager of the year. Winning the league doesn't mean you should automatically get it but doing it breaking records does.

In 2001 United won the PL at the earliest point it had ever been won and were 18 points clear at the time. Were on course to win by another record points margin till the last 5 games were played using many youngsters and they picked up only 4 points.

Similar season to Liverpool in that they dominated the league, but were dugshit in the cups.

George Burley won manager of the year for getting newly promoted Ipswich into the Uefa Cup.

It's good to recognise the great jobs that managers who don't win stuff at lesser clubs do. There is always this lazy opinion in football that winning stuff automatically means better. Not always the case.

Wilder isn't going to get as high as 5th so there is a difference but he I'd agree fergie should have had it.

Definitely Klopp. Considering the season we’ve had all the matches and to have won the league at a canter.

Wilder has been second best, which is saying something when you’ve got some top coaches int he league. Very very impressed by him.

Didn’t Tony Pulis get it in 13/14, after the seasons Rogers and Pellegrini had!

There's actually 2 separate Manager of the year awards.

PL Manager of the Season and the LMA Manager of the Year.

Chris Wilder is the current holder of the LMA award.
