Is the PL weaker this season

It's the subjectivity of it that I don't like. What exactly are the factors that produce the value? I've seen a lot of games ( not just Liverpool games) where the expected score at the end of the match didn't seem at all linked to what I had watched.

And that may be true but I can assure you that I wasn't one of them. It is by far the worst stat talked about in football

They should decide games on just expected goals alone. So a team can just have loads of speculative shots on goals and that will win them the game even if the other team actually scores and they don't.

Not sure if you can class it weaker. Maybe last season was one of the best, since both top two teams finished a win away from 100 points. Liverpool were simply far too good, hence the gap makes it look worse than it actually is. City are in with a good shout of CL trophy this season, so if they end up winning that, you have two seasons on the trot where CL winners are English clubs.

Same old b0ll0x you always hear the season Liverpool win anything, or beat anyone.
Beat Barcelona, all of a sudden worst Barcelona ever.
Destroy Bayern, worst Bayern team ever, p 155 the league, worst league ever.
The backdrop to this conversation for many, has to do with people struggling to come to terms with how good Liverpool are, so they look for a reason, any reason, to help them cope.
Pretty pathetic really, but totally expected. 🙂

somehow i suspected the OP was wasting his time when he wrote this:

He wasn't, its a genuine question for some, but it was bound to attract the idiot faction of this forum.

next time you could try addressing the arguments, rather than just going off on one. there may or may not be some "idiot factions" on this thread, but i haven't seen any posts that advance the debate less than yours.

Of course it is, i can't really see how that can be argued. And this comes from a fan of a club actually unsettling the bigger clubs party, i am still not foolish enough to think we are where we are ahead of some of them other than through the fact that they are in disarray.

Of course it’s weaker. It’s only Liverpool fans that deny this.

5 different winners in like 7-8 seasons says it's competitive.

When man u and arsenal were competing for the title every year the league was dross. They were miles ahead.

Now it's the same with Liverpool and city but they are detting records and the teams in the bottom half are way stronger and have way more resources.

That's how man u are so far off the pace despite constantly spending hundreds of millions.

Pl teams dominate the transfer market like never before.

Competitive doesn’t necessarily equal high quality.

My Sunday league is competitive.
