Oliver Skipp is world class
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's not tall enough to be World Class mate.

The Sterling assist stat is definitely remarkable but more a unique one off. Even the crap City version of Sterling was assisting more than that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you put anyone with good off the ball movement in that city side and they post similar numbers. player like traore, sane, mahrez (if he started every game), son, mane, salah, rashford, martial and a few others.

The way that city team (and sterlings got fantastic off the ball movement, his best attribute imo) create chances and one on one situations for sterling, he fluffs a lot of good chances and positions. its why he struggled to score for england for so long

Well we beat Chelsea and Man City 2-0 with Fernandes in the team playing a big part.

KDB, Salah, Van Dijk

I think world class is being used far too generously.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This.

Though I would extend that to Aguero

ttliv how many madrid games you watched this year? considering your calling some a "r3tard" surely must mean youve watched a lot of madrid games to be like that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not going to pretend I watch them week in week out, but I've seen a couple of their games. Also I even defended Ramos after someone said he wasn't a top 5 defender. But again to say Van Dijk wouldn't get in the Madrid defence is downright stupid to me. It would obviously be a Ramos Van Dijk partnership.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
and drop varane?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
For a better defender yes? Fack me the guy is perfect for 2 years, does a mistake in a meaningless game when his mind is already on holiday and all of a sudden he is Titus bramble. So fickle.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the fact you think he's been perfect shows your bias and no point debating the point further. you said you havent seen madrid much but have chose the hill your willing to die on.
madrid conceded less goals this year than liverpool, varane has been fantastic for 3-4 years.
yet you find it "r3tard3d" and call people stupid because they'd have the nerve to say they wouldnt swap a winning formula.

I was going to say just this.
I love vvd but varane has been at the top level for almost a decade injuries aside.
Even when ramos was poor varane was always performing.

the fact you think modrid v henderson is the same as varane v vvd, two of the best cbs in the world is funny to me. anyway no point debating it.

Yes but he's improved a lot in that aspect of his game, which is why he's getting close to 20 league goals a season. Also 8 goals in his last 9 England games so improved there too.

He was the best player against us in our CL QF, which shows he can do it in big games.

"World class" doesn't mean anything.

"International class" = good enough to get in the national team.

"Premiership class" = good enough to play in the Premiership.

"World class" = good enough to play for... Planet Earth? Against whom? Mars?

If you mean "in a theoretical World XI" then presumably that means max 2 players per position?

‘ World class" doesn't mean anything’

It’s just a term, it doesn’t need to be taken so literally. It’s a personal view on who people think are the best players in the world.

calling people stupid, r£tard£d and a moron because they have the nerve to debate...

i think we know who the real moron is here.

Out of curiosity, definitely not wound up Titliv, can you think of one CB who plays at the same level on both sides of the pairing?

I get that. But it's the way the phrase is thrown around as though it does have an actual meaning, when it's completely arbitrary.

It's also the fact that Spurtle doesn't define what he interprets "world class" to mean in the OP, yet he clearly distinguishes between "world class" and "top class" as though there's a meaningful/measurable difference.

Top class is on the brink of being world class. Requires a little more consistency to get there.

For me world class is consistently performing at a high standard for 2 or more seasons, in all competitions. This includes having a big influence in games.

We have conceded just 4 more goals than Madrid despite playing like absolute donkeys since winning the title as everyone is on party mode.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
if you completely ignore all your matches since football restarted - which you predictably appear keen to do - you've still conceded more goals per match than madrid this season.

and i'm guessing you wouldn't swap your GK, LB, or RB for Madrid's.

Ramos and Varane have four tough games a year against Barca and Atletico Madrid. The rest of the league is very poor. Most of their opponents have midgets as strikers with no pace or in the case of Bilbao a headless chicken with pace with the name Inaki Williams. They both struggled the one time they played a big target man in De Jong of Seville. Varane always has problems with big physical strikers with a good hold up play.

VVD at this moment is better than both Madrid defenders. They were worldclass a few years ago but not anymore.
