Woakes had a good series against us last time
Fekk sake here comes woakes - always does well vs Pakistan.
Always does well at home, to be honest. Not just vs Pakistan. Conditions should suit him nicely today
does he still average above Cook in England with the bat too?
Carrying nicely this morning, isn't it. If Archer cranks it up but doesn't drop too short he could be tasty

Probably not anymore, his average since he scored that century has been dreadful.

All our bowlers (bar Wood) have a very good average at home which backs up the claim that whoever gets picked should do the job. The batsmen are the ones who need to deliver.
Anderson - 23.84
Broad - 25.91
Woakes - 22.54
Archer - 24.92
Curran - 22.63
Curran's average is definitely bolstered by how few tests he's played, tbf, but yeah. Those are solid.
i really rate the Pakistan line up
admit i havent watched much of them but like having an experienced captain at 3, world class batsman at 4 and keeper at 7. Old school
Average runs scored by the visiting team’s opening partnership in England since the start of 2017= 15.59

great stat that.
already doubled by Pakistan this innings
You can see why we get so impatient and negative when an early wicket doesn't fall, can't you. We're so used to it happening that we don't know what to do.
Why are we in Manchester ffs
Manchester also highest city in Covid cases at the moment. Terrible location choice

It's better than West Indies but still not great. 2 ageing batsman, unproven openers and one high class batsman. Also a very long tail.
Typical northern weather
Bloody 25 degrees in London
Really need a wicket now.

Really don't
Great to see patient, solid batting against probing, demanding bowling - exactly what a first session of test cricket should be
