This is stupid. Rizwan is seeing it like a football. Light is clearly not an issue.

posted on 14/8/20

Or of course he could have told his bowlers much earlier to bowl full and at the bloody stumps.

Course it’s bad light... especially when paks desperate to bowl 20+ this evening. Umpires have done right. Sun will be shining tomorrow so england can reply then

I don't think you can solely blame Root, Anderson and Broad are perfectly capable of stepping in to make suggestions.

I’m fed up with modern cricket and it’s lunch and tea breaks

Yep, players would play 150 overs in a day back in the 60s and then head back to the nets for practice
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Grow up Palmers. I thought better of you.

The light meter has ruined this match. Won't be getting any more than 50 overs a day if they go off whenever it's cloudy

posted on 14/8/20

Yeah utter shambles.

Bet it’ll be the same story tomorrow and the day after, until there’s no point at all getting anyone back out there.

Has ruined the series a bit, this test will almost certainly be a draw.

I get that mate, but every time I make a valid post, it seems to get taken as a joke these days. Not nice really.

Fairest way to do it, same for both sides. You cannot have one side batting in bad light, and the other not, that wouldn`t be fair. Light meters are an excellent way to decide when it is to dark to bat.

Are there no flood lights at Southampton...?

Umpire Richard Kettleborough was spoken to by ICC's anti-corruption unit after taking to the field wearing a smartwatch on the first day of the second Test...

In the words of Jose, if I say something I’ll be in trouble..

Rizwan was creaming cover drives before they went off. Clearly wasn't very dark. The umpires have far too low a bar for what's too dark and the match has been ruined because of it.

Need to sort this I agree, why not just change the ball, to white and carry on, same as one day stuff

Summer Test matches should not need floodlights, natural light for a century and a half has been the way to decide Tests. And rightly so.

Agree with Vaughan for a change. The pink ball should be used in tests in England going forward.

Would be better for the spectators too. When you're at a test it's difficult to see the red ball even in sunshine. Compare that to white ball cricket where you can easily see it.

Oh I agree...but if they're there, & they keep the game on we use them...
Cricket cutting off it's own nose to spite the face...damned stupid

Slightly cloudy - hence a little dark is natural light mind...but if we've introduced light meters we introduce the floodlights too

England fans turning on England fans on this thread. Personally don’t mind it lads, not much happening in the cricket anyway so do carry on

Players safety always has to come first. There is a reason batsmen go to the crease dressed up like gladiators, helmets, padded up all over. Give them bad or artificial light as well as a ball hurtling at them at speed, then it is only right the umpires use light meters.

Might as well call this test a draw

Dont use light meters in 50 over night games, your losing the point
