Celtic delighted to sign Vasilis Barkas on a four-year deal
By: Newsroom Staff on 30 Jul, 2020 13:07
CELTIC Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Greek international goalkeeper, Vasilis Barkas, who has joined the club on a four-year deal from AEK Athens.
The 26-year-old, who has been capped 10 times by Greece, has spent the past four years with AEK. And he already has experience of playing at Paradise, having been in the AEK Athens side which took on Celtic in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League back in 2018.
The sides drew 1-1 in Glasgow, with Callum McGregor scoring for the Hoops, with the Greeks winning 2-1 in Athens to progress to the play-off round.
Vasilis becomes Celtic’s second Greek player, following in the footsteps of Georgios Samaras, who spent five-and-a-half-years with the Hoops, making 253 appearances and scoring 74 goals.
Everyone at Celtic welcomes Vasilis to the club and wishes him every success in the years ahead.
No idea who this guy is but happy he’s no Fraser Forster

A Greek gent to keep things tight at the back?
I suppose we do play a rearguard action in Europe quite often.
Joe Hart to join Celtic has just went 4/5
Bizarre
The fact we’re going to pay £5 million would suggest they’ve done their homework.
Woods will undoubtedly make him better too.
Quite pleased with this signing.
Of all the GK's linked with us other than Lurch he was the by far the best name on the list.
Welcome to Paradise young man.
“I want to win 10 in a row, I want to help us get to the champions league and Fluck Rangers”
That’ll do for me big man, welcome aboard.
Pleased with that. Doubt he'll be thrown straight in for Sunday, but who knows? Needs to get up to speed quickly, so he might well start.
Obviously FF would have been superb, we know that, but if he didn't fancy it then Barkas looked the best option. Good age at 26, resale value, and I'd hazard a guess that he'll be better than big Lurch with the ball at his feet.

Trust you to pipe up.
Use of up to five substitutes in Scottish Premiership matches for the 2020/21 season has been approved by Premiership clubs.

I think this is a good thing, probably favours Celtic and Rangers more, but still a good thing

Swiftly followed by something like...Sir David of Weir did some job for us and he was 47.
Big mans up that Sauchiehall St the night
FFS, you can name 9 subs this season and use 5 in the Scottish Premiership...
Half the teams will struggle to name seven subs and they'll all be kids.
This just gives further advantages to the top two clubs in the league I'm afraid to say. I also wonder what it'll do for the chances of some young players on the fringes who might be better served by being loaned out at these clubs.

I agree that the advantage will go to the teams with the bigger squads, but it might force clubs to bring in and play youngsters. It could go either way for their development.
It’s defo helpful to the teams that are in Europe. More games in a condensed period means they can change their players about. Is it still the case though that you only have 3 attempts to use your 5 subs, so similar to just now albeit you have 2 extra players you can bring on?
