A fine contribution to the cause over the years. But he is not going to improve, and seems to have priced himself out of consideration. Time to move on........

He’s an absolute carthorse, that can’t even fulfil a full season

No doubt we’ll buy him for millions and give him a 5 year contract

Thank you Vidal for your excellent post. As I’m sure you all know I’m a big fan of Martin and was hoping he would stay with us for a little longer. I would rather wait till we have a better player to replace him, as we know we buy some rubbish like Blackman and Camara to name two.

I’m watching the cup final and have just seen an assist from Giroud which was Martinesque. We will miss him this season and wish it was Lawrence leaving instead of Chris.

Good luck and thank you Chris Martin, you will probably go to Leeds as you are ten times the player Bamford is!

I remember a young lad by the name of John O'hare great player he was scored a few and assisted in many more. Chris's Martin is a modern equivalent though he would have been hounded out of Derby by today's fans. Good player free transfer messed around by the club but still came back and gave his all. Where many wouldn't play on after ending contracts Chris did and weighed in with That goal. Best wishes for the future

Well Vidal, this tribute deserved a better response. I can only assume everyone is away and behaving in a vile manner at the beach?

Judging by his "no celebrations" upon scoring recently my guess is that his case was packed a while ago. I do think CM offers us something we dont (currently) have but as I've said many times of late we, along with most of our Championship rivals have no money coming in - so cant afford to keep him on his current terms. I dont know what was offered to Chris contract wise but I'd be surprised if he'd get more elsewhere. It was stated when the Keogh fiasco happened last year that he (Keogh) was on £25k weekly - and offered £10k weekly to get through his rehab - which he turned down....to his detriment. Maybe he was offered similar terms - clearly only Chris and the club know. Maybe he already had something else lined up - but if not he may well struggle.

Well said, VC.

All I can say in response to Vidal's thread is that whenever I think back to my favourite DCFC moments over the past 7 to 8 seasons, CM is consistently involved.
Notably in some best goals, assists and general play that we have seen, all coming from an uncommonly intelligent footballer.
He's not the calibre of player who arrives at Derby very often and certainly not one who will be easily replaced, as I suspect we shall find, in the coming months.

FYI, I have not, as yet, been banned from any pubs in the locality, although it was a prime reason for coming here in the first place.

I wondered that too.
Definitely a Gooner

We will survive the loss of Martin just as we survived the loss of Hughes and Hendrick, we will survive the loss of Keogh. Remember we lose all our players eventually. It's up to the management to replace them. Problem is over the past few years our ability to sign decent players seems to have declined. When you look at the millions wasted on the likes of Butterfield, Johnson, Camara, Blackman, Anya and Josefzoon it makes you want to cry.
Step up the academy, zigger zagger, zigger zagger Hector-Ingram.

I’m at a bit of a loss to understand why he hasn’t signed.
He’’s probably got a two year option elsewhere. Probably somewhere commutable, Birmingham, Sheff Wed perhaps.

We either haven't offered enough money or contract that is too short. I can understand why that might be. We are basically back to the early seasons of Nigel Clough where we were desperate to reduce the wage bill.

One of them is the modern equivalent of a "Derek Hales"

But that list is half a team.

Never mind, Sam Rush is happy in his retirement.

Have a horrible feeling that Bellyache might be the new Derek Hales. Coincidentally both were a success at Charlton.

It really is hard to appreciate today the effect of signing Hales had on the club. Other players who have had a devastating effect on the club are Ravenelli and Clod but none changed us so much that we went from big players in the top league to also rans overnight. The money wasted on Hales meant we weren't able to improve what was an aging team and accelerated our decline.

I agree about both players. Hales was awful as was that donkey Bobby Campbell.

For some reason I dislike Bellyache, I think it was his comments about how he wanted to get to the premiership and if Derby didn't get there he would move. I think it's lost on him if we want to get promoted we need better than him. We don't even know whether he is a centre half or a midfielder, maybe he can play in goal. £8/10 million is a hell of a lot for a player like him. No wonder we are bust.

Derby have the unenviable tag of "Man Utd of the Championship" when it comes to buying players, their prices seem to miraculously double.

'Tis a record no less......

Courtesy of the BBC:

Derbyshire are just a point behind in second after recording their biggest ever run chase to beat neighbours Nottinghamshire.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice was there at the end on 91 not out, supported by 30 from Michael Cohen in an unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 66 to see their side home on 365-7, after captain Billy Godleman's earlier 86.
