Would be shocked even if he came to the PL. The only team he may well go to is city. Liverpool are heavily linked but he is a completely different type of CM to what Klopp likes plus they have numerous midfielders. Think we are looking elsewhere for younger more homegrown players. Wouldn’t go anywhere else in my view

I don’t think Thiago would suit the prem these days at all. He’s had too many injury issues and isn’t the most dynamic midfielder.

I think he’d be an accident for any PL side signing him myself, best solution for him would be to replace Pjanic at Juve.

Of course Pep isn’t going to come out and say “No Thiago would be a disaster for any premier league club to sign!” about his former player is he?

That would be rude

and me

players like modric, xavi, pirlo, scholes and thiago dominate midfield withtheir intelligence not physicality

Thiago is a wonderful player, I’m not dismissing his ability, moreso his injuries.

And given he’s had a lot of injuries and he’s getting older i think in the physical league that is the prem it would make any move for him for a prem team not so great

Not sure I agree with you here....Pep can be a nightmare against some of his players if they do not see it his way...He will not butter them up afterwards

Remember Dante, Alexander Hleb, Yaya Toure, Samuel Eto'o, Zlatan Ibrahimovic

ah I see what you mean now. TBH that and the fact he is so heavily linked to liverpool is why its taken me so long to post this article.

There’s no way he’d play in place of Bruno in Ole’s setup. Not a chance. He can’t do that job.

posted on 2/8/20

Bayern not pulling out all the stops to keep him should send alarm bells ringing. And with our medical staff and his injury record, he'd be better off elsewhere.

I know he may be a good back up option, better than what we have, but there is no point having one if he's injured (See Bailly, Tuanzebe, and Jones).

True. He's a talented player. He doesn't do the job of an attacking midfielder, nor does he do the job of a defensive midfielder. He's hugely talented but essentially is a link man. I don't think United need that in our system. I think he could be well suited to Liverpool though

I love thiago but also checked my facts before advocating we sign him. No disrespect intended, but you clealy have not checked your facts.

1) he has got 1 year left and bayern had offered him a new deal. Everyone at bayern had though it was a formalty he will sign the new deal but he surprised everyone by saying he is looking for a new adventure and not wanting to negotiate whatsoever. So you are clearly mischaracterising the situation.

2) yes he had terrible injuries in his first 2 season at bayern and a few niggles here and there but in the last 5 season his total mins played for club and country are
19/20 - 4653 mins
18/19 - 4483 mins
17/18 - 3285 mins
16/17 - 4906 mins
15/16 - 3732 mins

link man?
what you mean like scholes in his later years, pirlo, modric, xavi etc
what you call a link man, I call the most important position in football. The difference between a good side and a great side.

If I may add this is exactly the role pogba is currently trying to play at utd although not very well

posted on 2/8/20

one last thing, he is the complete opposite of what liverpool currently do in midfield. Ironically that is the biggest reason he is linked to liverpool. He will give the liverpool midfield another dimension. So the suggestion he is suited to liverpool and not utd is laughable.

Yes, I consider it to be a role often fawned over but a deep midfielder who can't win the ball back basically needs a babysitter beside them at all times. Certainly not the most important role in football. Who plays that role for Liverpool? Or City? Or Barca at their best?

And quarterback Scholes in his latter years was a shadow of Scholes with legs

1) deep lying playmaker do not have to be a defensive liablility. Tackes+interception is what defensive contributions are rated on. Ironically thiago averages 2.1 tackles and 2.1 interception per game.

matic is (2.1 +1.1), fred (1.9 +1.1), McT (1.6+1.3) pogba (1.3 + 0.4)

so thiago is far from the defensive liability you are mischaracterising him as. His defensive contributions are among the best in the world although in a different style than most will immediately recognise

posted on 2/8/20

I think if we had him you’d need a more combative midfielder like McTominay or Fred beside him rather than Matic, ideally someone of the quality of Kante next to him would be great.

Thiago is all hype

Never made it at Barca. He’s coached through the majority of his Bayern career. He’s never really impacted big games and he’s never stood out in the CL. If Pep didn’t bring him through at Barca, I doubt people would speak about him the way they do.

He is a good player but nowhere near as good as made out to be

TBH my main concern about thiago is I am 100% sure he will displace pogba from the starting 11. I love pogba but he is not great in a sitting role whereas thiago is worldclass.

ole will need to manage the midfield carefully to give both pogba and thiago enough game time. This where thiago's versatility comes to play and the fact pogba can also play in a more advanced role.
