Is there a better spinner than Harmer in world cricket? Shame he's not on the international stage.

posted on 11/8/20

Hard to know how good he is really. He's a hugely competitive and skillful bowler who's also tall so gets extra bounce which is probably his main weapon. He's not someone who rags it square but gets just enough turn but uses drift and flight and just relentlessly bowls 6 balls in the right area over after over. The fact that he's still going unchanged from first thing this morning is incredible.

Porter deserves a wicket or two but Harmer is on target for all 10 here!

Ah, no 10fer for Harmer as Beard gets Jamie Smith out but Harmer took the catch . Another for Harmer and another for Beard so this one is just about done.

It was a lot to ask to hold out for a day against Harmer but some of the younger lads did well; Patel, Jacks and Smith all put in a good effort but as is often the case, the big man is the difference between the two sides. We'd be extremely average without him.

I suppose a 14 wicket match is decent enough

Well there's no chance of him representing England and the Kolpak deals will fall away this year due to Brexit. So he may well just become an overseas player which could well open the door to return to the SA side.

In other games, a lot of England hopefuls disappointed, especially with the bat. There were a quite a few batting collapses in this round of games. Bairstow got some runs at 3 so he'll be talking up a return to the test side

yeah Harmer would have been a game changer should he be allowed to play for England

Surrey continuing their fine season this morning. 31/3 vs Hampshire

Make that 31/4

At least there is some cricket on. 5 down now with Roy gone. I notice Morkel is back in the side though so your bowling should improve. Although you could do with a few more runs!

Well the above comment still stands. At least there is some cricket on although a lot of work needs to be done to force some results.

Somerset look well placed to grab their 3rd win in 3 and must be confident that they can win this competition with their quality bowling attack.

Yorkshire vs Derbyshire (both 2 from 2) is likely heading towards a draw although Malan (who's definitely worth keeping an eye on for England recall) is approaching a double hundred.

Essex have just rolled Sussex out for less than 200 but have only got 5 and a half sessions to try and bat well past them and then bowl them out again.

Jamie Overton has fallen 1 short of Warwickshire's total first innings score with a brutal knock, 120 off 92 balls with 15 fours and 6 sixes. Didn't realise but he's off to Surrey next year. If he can stay fit, that probably boosts his chances of playing for England.

Hitting a ton from #10 is no mean feat... I've seen Jamie Overton play in the Blast a few times. He's very quick but very hittable. Not sure about him as a test bowler but then if his brother can get a call up with his trundlers, then you never know...

Steve Davies is a classy bat and has been for years. I've heard nasty rumours that he was never in England contention while at Surrey because of his sexuality, but hopefully that's just salacious guff and it's just because there were always better WK/bats around.

I'd say I'm pleased they're seeing some play in the Surrey match, but... Well, at least it'll be a draw. Morne Morkel second top score with 33... Sigh. Our batting is an absolute mess this season. Laurie Evans top scored for us and he's not even our player, and we've only passed 200 once in 5 innings...

Are they doing the t20 blast this year?

posted on 17/8/20

Yeah, cramming it into a week starting end of Aug

Davies got a few ODIs under his belt didn't he? Class player.

I'm pretty sure there was a time when he was good enough to get into the side as a batsman only in the top 6 but because he was a keeper and Prior was good enough, he didn't get a look in.

He struggled initially at Somerset as didn't he bat in the top 4 or something for Surrey before moving to Somerset so he was batting at like 3/4 depending on where Hildreth was batting before moving down the order.

There could be a couple of tight finishes today. Somerset's victory push is currently on hold due to the rain although they should only need around 40 minutes of play at most to finish Warwickshire off. They look in pretty good form though and will be disappointed if they aren't in the final.

Yorkshire v Derbyshire is looking like it will be rained off so that's to be useful points for Derbyshire and keeps them in the mix.

Essex vs Sussex could be a great finish although batting has looked tough so I can't see us chasing 195 to win unless Cookie sets a good platform.

Surrey look set to collapse here although to be fair their unavailable XI is a lot better than their available XI

Two quick wickets now for Garton. I'm sure England fancied him for a while being a lefty who can bat a bit but he's way way way behind Sam Curran now.

Essex are actually batting pretty poorly and it could cost them a place in the final even if victory is secured in the final 2 games. Cook, Browne and Westley need to step up with more runs and hopefully Lawrence's return brings a bit more success with the bat. They can't just rely on the bowlers.

Ben Foakes has finally remembered which way round his bat goes... Immediately after Buttler cements his position as the test keeper!

Oh well, if he keeps batting well then Surrey stand to benefit and maybe he'll get a look in later on with Buttler potentially able to be a specialist bat.

Foakes century which seems we're getting a bit of a 6/7 conundrum for England now.

Foakes is obviously the better keeper. Buttler averages 50 when batting at number 6 so could play him with Foakes 7, but Pope needs investing in as he's the best talent since Root.

at present you'd drop Burns and open with Crawley, not what i'd do but if you were to fit buttler and foakes in
