Dean Henderson back to stay?

I’d give him a shot personally. Dave is making more and more mistakes, and with Romero as a very capable and experienced backup, I think it could work.

Maybe he'll let them battle it out next season - not sure whether that would work out but like most things, hindsight will be the judge.

Maybe he's going back out on loan.

That’d need someone to come in with a big offer for Dave. He’s still a very valuable asset to the club and the first XI.

It’s easy to forget that he’s still only 28 years old as well. Much has been made of the errors in his game over the last 24 months or so. But he still recorded 13 clean sheets in the PL this season and a better save percentage than either Ederson or Allison. If he gets past his wobbles, he might still be capable of delivering 6 or 7 years of world class performances. That isn’t something you cut loose without thinking very, very hard about it and having an excellent plan B in place.

It’d be a big gamble switching the two out. If Henderson buckled under the pressure, we’d be back in post-Schmeichel territory.

I think Henderson is probably going to have to accept that if he comes back, it’s going to mean a season, at least, of playing second fiddle, with chances here and there and a view to him getting the opportunity to compete for the shirt in the longer term.

Interesting that Sheff Utd have made an offer for another keeper. Could it be as a backup keeper, and they are thinking of keeping Hendo as their number one? Haven’t watched enough of Bournemouth and their keeper to know how good he is and if they would play him as first choice.

If they are still interested, I'd send Henderson to Chelsea.

Improve our closest top 4 rival in their weakest position? Where's the logic in that?

I would send him out on loan again for another season.

If he doesn't want to go and thinks he is good enough to be our number 1, then he shouldn't have a problem coming back and fighting DDG for the spot.

Are Celtic looking for a new keeper? I don't think that would be a bad move. Big club who are expected to win things especially going for 10 in a row. He'll also be quiet for a lot of the game so a real test of concentration.

De Gea is going nowhere, not in his wages. So ole is three options;

1) Cash in on Hendo whilst his stocks high and invest elsewhere.
2) Loan Hendo out. Personally I’d like to see him at a club who play on the front foot.
3) Let him try and displace DDG. Competition could see De Gea improve or push Henderson to force his way into the side.

It would be on loan, if they are interested in removing Kepa.

He gets first team football at the top and a taste of Champions League.

They're fighting for fourth next season, as are we. Hardly strengthening them.

It raises the question of where it leaves Romero if Henderson comes back expecting to be at least number 2 goalie and main back up to de gea

I have a lot less faith in Romero than others do. He plays in games where he usually has very little to do, but he still always looks shaky to me. Always on the verge of a mistake. Like the save he made last night with his leg and nearly diverted it into the far corner of the net. I think if he was playing regularly against decent opposition, things would turn sour pretty quickly

Spot on mate.

A lot of posters here perhaps don't remember those dark days before we got Van der Sar. We really don't want that again.

DDG on his worst day was better than all of those goalies.

Romero is an excellent number 2 and have no problem in playing him in cup competitions vs easier opposition. Wouldn't have him as a number 1 over DDG though.

There are occasions where he has played and has been very slow to react to some shots, taking an age to get down to save a shot.

Yeah I'd be happy for him to continue the role he currently occupies, but I wouldn't want him to be our number one

Yep; unfortunately for him, he’s another player who has spoilt us with season upon season of world class performances. We’ve forgotten what an average keeper looks like.

And look at the issues Chelsea have had this season with Kepa and had previously with Courtois, Arsenal with Szchezhnehyz (sp?), and Spurs previously with Lloris, all of whom are still top keepers. Any of those experiences still leave DDG looking world class.

i think it really is their achilles heel. the way they're strengthening up front henderson could be that little bit needed to push them ahead of you.

Hate to say it but this is kind of how I feel. Great no. 2, not so sure about him as a no. 1.

De Gea not even up to being a no2 then

Personally think De Gea on performances should be our number 3. Henderson and Romero are significantly better shot stoppers and make very few mistakes. If De Gea wasn't getting paid so much, he would be our number 2 now.
