United players joining our "bitter" rivals.

Just gonna focus on the two, that being, Ince to Liverpool and Schmeichel joining City. To what extent did that tarnished their legacy in your eyes?

......

Not one bit what so ever.

The great Dane joining City didn’t bother me at all, not at the time, and not now. Ince joining Liverpool didn’t have as great an impact as it would had he joined them directly from us, and there was an element of falling out with SAF too. He was a good player for us and his contribution to us is often overlooked.
Playing for the “enemy” didn’t tarnish or change what either player helped us achieve.

I'm with VC. So long as they give good service to us, they can go where they want after.

It wouldn't tarnish any players legacy for me. However I don't take football that seriously in comparison to some.

My belief is if it did tarnish a player in a fans view then they might want to reassess their opinions.

Evening VC happy belated birthday 52

OP in answer to the Owen question. Not a jot did it matter to me.

Expecting loyalty from players when we'd happily get rid of others without a second though is a part of football hypocrisy I love.

What about him?

I thought he had a loan spell with you once.

Perhaps I'm wrong.

For once you are right but not sure what he has to do with this.

He wasn’t a United player.

Must be nice for all those players who join United on loan to know the fans don't accept them.

As a Liverpool fan, I didn’t care at all when Owen went to you - might have felt differently had he gone direct from us to you. Don’t know.

As for Ince, I never wanted him in the first place and couldn’t warm to him at all. Soiled goods in my opinion. Nonsensical, but there you go.

Can’t see why anyone would be bothered about Schmeichel joining us. Didn’t feel like we’d got one over on you or anything when he did. Unlike Tevez, and (almost) Rooney!

Spot on

Free trade and players are entitled to choose who they want to work for?
Loyalty is for fans

Owen I wasn’t bothered about at all.

The only player that bothered me was Peter Beardsley going to Everton but that’s probably because I was 15 and football seemed a lot more important at that age!

As long as they didn’t tarnish our name and was respectful

Football is a job.

Remember Michael Owen producing a brochure, where he listed his 'brand values'.
Amongst those 'values', we had, 'cool', 'stylish', 'clean & fresh', 'global' etc, etc, which then descended into the utterly ridiculous, 'charismatic', and 'fit and healthy' 😂

This, banters all well and good but to the normal human being and fan respect is usually still there. And at the end of the day its a job, and these clubs are top clubs and pay well so how can you blame them for making sensible career choices in a profession thats very short? Don't blame Owen but its never nice is it, especially if you was a fan thats for sure.

Yeah Schmeichel and Cole joining City didn't really bother me. Hargreaves either really. Tevez was a different kettle of fish. Probably for a couple of reasons. One, City were far more of a threat when he went to them than when Cole or Schmikes did. 2. He was still very much at the peak of his powers.

Additionally, there was the bad blood he seemed to have with SAF and he moved to City directly
