Our record FEE is higher than Chelseas and over £10m more than Citys.
However, I am pretty sure I have been comparing us to Liverpool - champions of the world, Europe and England - and not those 2.

There you go again, misrepresenting figures. Our record fee is a fraction above Chelsea's. Thing is, we paid said record fee for a winger. They paid it for a feckin goalkeeper. OK so it's backfired as some big sales do. But the point is that just like City, Pool and Utd, they identified a weakness in their team then aggressively went after the player they thought fit their needs. 70 mil is an insane price for a goalie. But that's who they wanted so that's who they got.
Same thing with Pool and VVD, City and anyone they want and Man U with Pogba and McGuire. That aggressive dealing is only possible when you know as the negotiator, that you can spend whatever it takes to get a player. A position our negotiating team has never been in. No matter how much money we have had to spend. Klopp is a management genius, has a transfer team way better than ours and EVEN HE had to break the transfer record for a position. To get that final piece of his kingmaker's puzzle.
Don't you get it? This is the modern era of football. You can have the best of everything and still. If you're not pulling a Leicester City miracle, if you want a PL title, then at some point. You WILL have to go after in that, "Don't care what it costs, GET HIM!" manner. Hence we're fecked for winning the PL/CL titles. Can sack and change all the back room staff ya like and change managers just as much. Until this club is willing to behave that way when necessary, forget about PL/CL titles.

The Ozil fee was massive at the time. Cavani moved to PSG before we even bid for SuarezBut we thought we were guaranteed to get Suarez because of the release clause
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And probably would have done if we'd have bid 60. Do you think that City, Chelsea or Utd would have bid £40,000,001, if they'd wanted him? Would they feck mate. Hell even Levy at Spurs would have told his people "Be safe and bid 50-60 to make sure."
The sheer mentality/approach of making the lowest bid possible for a player we desperately needed, just about sums up what I'm on about. You won't win the PL these days, being CHEAP! And half the problems we have are because no matter how much money we've had, the owner still insists on trying to.
That's how a release clause works though

So your argument that we don't spend big fees is actually balls, and really you meant we don't spend big fees wisely. The sort of thing that people like Raul and Edu, and Gazidis and Wenger before, are responsible for. Exactly what we have been saying to you since the start.
You seem to make a different argument every time you are proved wrong, only to be proved wrong again.
Kroenke micro-managing
You clearly think our funds have been spent wrong.
WB2's vision for Arsenal - go out and buy anyone as long as they are expensive. Sign Leno? No, he is too cheap. Go out and buy Kepa for 3 times the price, a third of the quality.

Ah from pedantic to obtuse, lovely.
Nowhere have I said "buy anyone as long as they're expensive." You don't have to have a marquee superstar in every position. You can budget buy an tinker in many of your positions, depending how good manager is.
But that can only get you so far (top 4 as we know only too well). To win the title, without a miracle. At some point, you do have to BE PREPARED/WILLING to pay through the nose, if that's what's necessary. To get those one or two key players, who will be the difference between winning titles and being 'also rans'
' Hell even Levy at Spurs would have told his people "Be safe and bid 50-60 to make sure.'
You really should try to belatedly tag the Spurs board.

So Tim Lewis has come in, started an investigation into our transfer activity and sacked Raul Sanllehi.
Another reason to think #1 is correct
Thought we might've had a reaction to yesterday's Arsenal news from the OP.
Strange he's keeping so quiet on the matter...
Lex if you're on about Raul, I already commented on the thread that was there. Looks like admins have removed it now though. Dunno why, nothing I said broke any rules.
My reaction is to not immediately buy into some BS "Leak then deny," bunch of crap about financial impropriety around Pepe. As though financial impropriety isn't part and parcel of most top flight transfers these days. That's why they cost so bloody much. Grubby agents and grubby side money deals. So any impropriety in the Pepe deal was always known about and is now simply being used as an excuse to mask the fact the Raul WALKED mate, he weren't sacked.
He quit in frustration after being told yet again "You can't spend that much." He was probably prepared to cough a tonne to get Partey, getting told no because he spent 70 on Pepe last season and it all came to a head. The club as usual insisting on cheapy dealing, despite how badly we need the player. So he's said "stuff ya then I can't work like this". You can by into the club's BS story if you want. But I'm never swallowing that crap. Club's hardly going to come out and say "He left because we're too feckin cheap in the transfer market," now are they.

Having spent a club record fee of £72m only last summer on a player we arguably didn't need?

Actually we did need a RW. Not going to argue that we need/ed defenders and a DM moreso but that doesn't change the fact that RW was vacant for a starting spot.

Imagine being that thick and gullible that you'll believe any pack of lies you're told as an excuse to deflect from the simple truth. Owner is and always has been a cheapskate in the transfer market. Despite watching us miss out on star after star because he's cheap, for over 10 years now. Literally in ya face with the bargain basement all this time. But ya still "entrenched" in ya dumbass belief he's willing and allowing people to spend what it takes to do the job these days
That was an example of how it could have gone rather than me exactly thinking that scenario. I just know that whatever the scenario was, he's gone because we'll not let him spend a he sees fit to build the team he's been asked to. Why else do you think he talks about leaving in frustration, in his own announcement/.tweet. Or were you too busy lapping up the "Leak and deny" BS the club put out for you?.
