For the dominant team in the first two decades of the PL we got less pens than you'd have thought as well. It's an anomaly that happens sometimes.

We don't have a sophisticated pattern of play, but we have some very skillful players who can beat defenders in the box and win penalties.

The amount of pens this year is odd, but it's an anomaly.

I know I love having a look at twitter when it happens

Football twitter is hilarious, it's all young lads with a pic of a footballer saying everything is an agenda against whatever team they support.

We had this a bit in 2013/14 - the chat was all about how refs were giving Liverpool pens and handing them wins.

The reality is we had Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling, all had very quick feet and would suck defenders into silly challenges. They’d go down a bit easily from time to time but the majority were legitimate pens. I suspect the same is true of Utd.

You're not wrong but I suppose if I was an opposition fan I would consider one or two to be 'soft' but not glaring errors.

We did go a few years with very little penalties so I suppose it balances out sometimes.

Yeah exactly, like the pen united got last night was soft but there was contact and was the right decision.

And imagine you actually were Martial last night, frustrating game where they just couldn't score and when he feels that contact, at that stage of the game then he's going to look for a pen.

I read the other thread and it made me laugh. There are some genuine nutters. I have Billy filtered so don’t usually have to read his gibberish but the conspiracy stuff is hilarious. Tbh, Hafi isn’t much better - just believes there is a conspiracy against Utd

It is true. I posted all their penalties the other weeks and all were penalties, apart from one, the Fernandes one and there was probably another two that were debatable, both I think coming from Pogba throwing himself to the ground, however there was contact against Spurs, therefore debatable. The other I can't remember who it was against but Pogba went into the box and went down before contact as far as I could tell, although I may be wrong.

So even if you take it as 3 penalties out of 22, it doesn't show an agenda or even great luck, does it? Ultimately with VAR, luck isn't going to come into it as often. You'll get the odd one for you and the odd one against you. With that said, I'm sure there were two or three that United maybe should have had but didn't get.

It is a running joke in past few months due to the oddly high number of pens, but you don't get a pen without being in the opposition box so united are doing something right.
