There's nothing like winning a cup final to paper over the cracks. Arsenal have done superbly well to win the FA Cup so often recently but it has given the board the comfort that not too much is .wrong. Meanwhile the fans moan about the rubbish CBs and the poor CM

Devonshire,
Great insight from a mere Spurs fan! I have an amazingly very humble philosophical mind and also struggled with this FA Cup final. I had stated weeks ago on this medium that perhaps losing the FA Cup final might be in the best interests of the future of Arsenal. Now, while other top teams are looking at building up their already strong teams in the transfer market (eg: Man. Utd), the most exciting story about Arsenal is that Ozil is going to stay at the club until he is ready to leave!
Once again, the Gunners future will require a vision, and a major overhaul top-to-bottom, not merely plugging holes!
Globaled (U7198)
I am not sure you comprehend the gravity of our financial issues. It was impossible to have a clear out before covid. Even more so afterwards. Ozil, Sok, Mustafi, Kolas contracts are all coming to a natural end next season. And they are all earning well in excess of £5m each. Ozil, 3 times that. Thats abt £40m a season. This is what we lose every season while we are out of the Champions League. Can you imagine if didn't have European football at all? Thats what would happened had we not won the Fa Cup.

=======
Shock horror, the Arsenal hater wanted Arsenal to lose the cup final...
The FA Cup has clearly papered over the cracks and made it seem as nothing was wrong. That is why we have replaced two managers and totally restructured the way the club is run. It is why we have had a massive turnover of players, and continue to look to replace the Wenger-era players this summer.
Amazing that the Arsenal hating Globaldicked believes the rumours about united but has completely ignored rumours regarding Arsenal.

Interesting article.
I remember 14 months ago a lot of hope that we would sign Pepe and Tierney.
The year before everyone was wanting Torreira and Leno.
The year before that it seemed impossible that we would sign Lacazette and then Auba in January.
So, when you say we get our hopes up and they are dashed I'm not quite sure what you mean. Is it because Laca, Torreira and Pepes performances dashed our hopes?

If you want to discuss Kroenke being unwilling to provide additional sugar-daddy type of investment like Chelsea & City receive then that's a different topic. Would we all like him to? Yes. Is he ever going to? No. Would it be nice to have an owner that wants to invest his own money in his own assets to appreciate their value? Sure.

Sorry Class,
But this Arsenal situation cannot be fixed by spending alone!!!!
Certainly they can use some additional talent but they need someone with 3-5YR VISION! This will require cleaning out those players who do not want to be at the club, purging of non-performers, strengthening of management (eg: either let Arteta go or get an experienced assistant manager to coach him) and, most important of all, focus on the development of home grown talent and give them the opportunity to learn on the pitch. Why is this succeeding so well at Man. U.? There must be less dependence/focus on talent from abroad and more future dependence/focus on the development of talent at home is key to the future success of Arsenal FC.
This will require cleaning out those players who do not want to be at the club,

Easier said than done. But it is being done.

strengthening of management

Arteta has been here a few months and already proving himself a strong manager

Yeah, not giving Saka, Nketiah, Willock, Nelson any game time this season was really disappointing.
Sorry, you say they all played a hell of a lot? But globaled says otherwise

btw: This purging does not have to be done all at once and again needs timing/planning/vision.
Certainly an immediate "good-bye" to Ozil would be a good start and might get the attention of other "non-performers"!

Here comes another "Arsenal fan" who wanted us to lose the FA Cup final
We surely have more thick fans than any other team on this site, drownin' in 'em.
I'm genuinely surprised at how satisfied fans are with the development of this team in recent years. Sure we won the FA cup, but we've been getting progressively worse. Bar the signing of Aubameyang (jury is out for Pepe & Tierney) you can't claim we've signed any top class players. We've been out of the Champions League for a while now too.
Would say the jury is decided on Tierney actually, he's clearly a very good footballer.
Pepe has shown he has a lot of quality too and stats wise has had a decent first season, especially given the disruption to it.
I'm genuinely surprised at how satisfied fans are with the development of this team in recent years.
========
No-one is happy with the development. Hence why Wenger and then Emery left us.
We have, though, made a lot of changes to all levels of the way the club is run. We have to give time for the mistakes of the past to stop hindering the future.
However, it is undeniable that we have made some good, hopefully long term, signings. We have also made some short term signings that we all raise our eyebrows too, but many of us know it isn't a quick fix.
If you look at a lot of our signings they are long term. Some haven't worked out for reasons other than quality (Guen - discipline, Torriera - crybaby) but we have signed a lot of young talent - Leno (relative to his position), Saliba, Tierney, Martinelli, Pepe the aforementioned two who are sadly on the way out, as well as trying to integrate academy players into the first team. Good chance we will continue to do this.

Maybe, maybe, as much as it pains me to say this, if we can't get rid we should tell Ozil he's going to be used in Europa/League Cup only and that we want him to give his all to lead the youth/reserve players around him in those matches and win us the Europa. We would need to play a formation and tactics that suit him and it would require his 100% buy in to give his all one last time to stand a chance of succeeding.
