Ole in the Age of Bullets

Ole does not play like the old United teams at all.Sice when did you ever see Peter or Edwin play the ball out 2 meters and then we try to play out the back under SAF?
Ole has implemented his own way that on a 1:1 basis has outmatched those teams you are admiring. He now needs to do it across 38 games in the league. The one criticism I do have is that the tempo of passing and movement sometimes is too slow against the low blocks and needs to be taken up a gear. We go through phases in games but we need to try and maintain in through out the 90 mins.

Ole has outdated tactics and plays a counter attacking style which he inherited from Fergy.
-----------------------
When did we last play counter attacking football throughout the entirety of a game? Maybe January?

We then signed a player that would allow a more dominant style and have stuck with that since. It's called evolving the style and it is based around the players at his disposal. Almost like a modern approach?!

I'm not too sure ji

We have beaten the "better" teams with a counter attacking style and come unstuck against those who don't allow us that style and sit back.

We have got better at opening up these teams and "vintage it's" gets used increasingly more n more

Modern managers know how to coach a positional play and positional pressing. Nagelsmann is one of those.

He is one of the best in implementing a back three system with the double pivot and wing backs take high positions which resulted in good build up.play. We saw that yesterday for the second goal.

The main concept for him is to play as many vertical passes as possible and to do this needs players to take up positions between the lines of the opposition to give passing options.

Ole has outdated tactics and plays a counter attacking style which he inherited from Fergy. He will get results against some teams because he has some good attacking players but will come up short against the very best tacticians.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly! And this is what the nostalgics can't see. Every time we play against a high pressing team we struggle.

Football runs in cycles, tactics included. Just when you think a manager is the GOAT and found the perfect formula, somebody creates a blueprint for how to beat it.

Like Mourinho, Guardiola, Potch and Tuchel?

Great tacticians whose sides his team have beaten?

To be fair a few months ago I thought Ole was a busted flush but it looks like it's starting to come together for him now.

He seems to have a good eye for a player when it comes to transfers which is massively important.

I always feel he will be lacking tactically which will cost you challenging for the league but each transfer window you'll keep improving. The next manager will have a good squad to work with unlike several of those before him.

Recruitment is probably the single most important aspect of running a football club. There's than the manager involved but so far under Ole it's been better than the 3 previous managers.

I wonder about your thoughts on Jose? Was he more or less progressive and modern than Ole?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jose was worse. At least, Ole has a good attitude and has improved a number of players individually.

Wonder if all these people begging for us to be rid of Ole think another manager could do better than 3rd and 3x cup semi finals?

posted on 14/8/20

Tactically, Ole is pretty progressive.

I’ve actually seen some of the same people on here moan about his “outdated tactics” and then complain when we insist on playing out from the back against a high line, use a zonal high press, deploy Brandon Williams inside Rashford instead of having him overlap, etc.

People just don’t understand what they’re watching. They do, however, know that they like to complain.

Celebrating three semifinals is the best example of developing a losing mentality. I hope our players not as proud of that as some of our fans are, because if it is the case, our game against Sevilla is lost before it is played.

Ole versus (W-D-L):

Pep 3-0-2
Emery 2-1-2
Rodgers 2-0-1
Mourinho 1-1-1
Poch 2-0-0
Sarri 1-1-0
Tuchel 1-0-1

None of those managers has got the best of him.

I’m not celebrating it, but it’s a sign of progression and consistency. We may yet win Europa.

Is this just as United manager or does it include Molde. I can't recall us beating Arsenal twice when they had Emery.

I think Klopp’s is the only one currently at the top of the game who has a better record over more than one fixture.

I missed Lampard off the list. He’s 3-0-1 against him.

It’s a pretty phenomenal record for only two seasons at the top level, really.

Our performance against City in the league Cup was one of the most embarrassing performances I've even seen, we couldn't leave our own half; and if you are happy, as a United fan, with 'doing well' (and losing) against Liverpool, then good for you.

City can make the best teams look like that at times. If you think bringing in a shiny young German coach is gonna change that, with the team we have, then you're deluded.
