Upamecano?

Quality player and if available for that price I’d say go for it.

Not sure if the Angelino comment is tongue in cheek but you do realise he was at City until January and looked average at best.

He is the black Nesta. And their LB belongs to City.

But you another wardrobe at the back? Maguire? what are you planning to do?
Buy big and wide players and park them in fron t Ed De Gea?

I'd take him anytime over what we have at the moment.

I've not seen much of Upamecano but if Leipzig are willing to lego of him I'd be willing to take a punt. He was far more impressive last night than anything I've seen from Koulibaly (who has always looked average to me when I've seen him although I admit I'm not an avid viewer of Italian football)

Thought exactly the same watching him last night and was waiting for someone to make an article on him. It’s only 1 game but he looked great and from I’ve heard this wasn’t a one off. Weren’t Arsenal interested for a while?

Also, didn’t city sell Angelino or is he on loan? I guess City could do with some more fullbacks, it’s an area they seem to neglect.

Upamecano is certainly interesting.

Good game last night, was also dominant against Spurs in CL before the break if I remember correctly.

He is 21 and would develop further, very interesting player.

Worth a punt imo.

Out of interest, have you watched any of the games Liverpool have played against Napoli in the CL over the last couple of seasons?

Just wondering whether you'd seen them and didn't rate him or not watched them. IMO he's been absolutely top notch every time we've played them.

RB Leipzig have an option to buy for around £25m which most expect them to take. It is a bit bizarre, LB has been a slight problem area for City for ages. Angelino had had two excellent seasons at PSV and City made what I thought was a very smart move, activating his buy back clause, only to barely use him.

Slightly annoyingly, we all but agreed to sign him when he was 16, but then annoyed his agent by changing the terms of the deal (refusing to buy him a flat for his parents I think). Would have cost us c. £2m at the time.

Have followed Koulibaly a little.

He was great in 2019, but haven't been quite as sharp in 2020 imo.
He got destroyed by both Inter and Barca in the CL recently, but as you state he did great against Liverpool (that was 2019).

Not in their entirety which is why maybe I'm being a bit unfair. What I did see though was Salah putting him on his backside a few times although he'll not be the first to have that done to him.

I may have just been watching the wrong games too but I can only go by what I see. Hopefully the United scouting team watch more!

Of course it matter the quality of your opponent. He did great in both matches against Liverpool, but have struggled more in 2020 (general). He looks less fit and is maybe on a little decline, but it's to early to say for sure.

He is 29 and african tho. So how old is he really?

And maybe I have a skewed view because the only games I've seen him in are the 4 groups games against us

But in all 4 game (18/19 & 19/20) he looked really good, an absolute leader in a team under pressure (for the most part) and we never scored more than 1 in a game against them.

He is 29 though and Napoli would probably want big money so I can see why clubs would look to a younger player. Last night was the first time I've really seen Upamecano - he looked very impressive and at 21 is likely to improve.

He was terrible in the EL against Arsenal.

RB also have another young French CB who's supposedly even better than Upa. Konate is half a year younger but has been injured for most od this season, but is apparently similar to Van Djik in style.

France have an embarrassment of riches in the CB department. Varane and Umtiti are world cup winners and are still only 26/27, then they have Lenglet and Laporte who are only 25/26. Following them they have a flurry of 20/21 year old wonderkids in Upamecano, Kanate and Zagadou.

Then there's England who have all their hopes pinned on Maguire

Thanks for killing the debate, guys.

I agree with OP, we should be interested in him, given our defensive display.

Maybe we're waiting on Smalling and Jones to be sold, that could bring our net spending on a CB to lower figures.

Good, strong CB with some years experience in the age of 21, it's a great prospect to follow.

Expect both Chelsea and Arsenal to have more specific interest in him tho.

He will probably go on to be one of the best CBs in the world, so I'd be very happy if we signed him to partner Slabhead

He had two situations last night that easily could be a penality, very small margins.
