Barcelona’s recruitment

They lost the plot after losing Neymar. What about the odd signings like Paulinho, Vidal and now Pjanic. Players way past there best. They also wanted Willian.

Barca have to pay us if Coutinho wins the CL with Bayern? That's amazing

posted on 15/8/20

"Furthermore, Barcelona will pay Liverpool €5m if Coutinho wins the Champions League this season (the reported clause is, incredibly, player specific and not club specific)."

This is just tragic.

Probably the only major club in Europe who's recruitment has been worse than ours the past 5 or so years. You look at some of thr signings they've made in that time and it beggars belief.

How the hell have they allowed Coutinho to also play against them as well? It was the same with James when he was on loan there despite being a Real player.

posted on 15/8/20

Just read on Twitter that apparently we sold the debt to a finance company, so it will in fact be them that Barca have to pay. But I guess they're still paying us for it in a roundabout way.

I can see the logic in the Dembele and Coutinho signings. Both were looking like they would be top players for years to come. They overpaid but looked like they were getting class.

The Griezmann one made no sense. Late 20s and plays in similar areas to Messi and Suarez. Total waste of money.

Then there is the weird signings like Prince Boateng, Braithwaite and Paulinho. Pjanic is also another strange one. Quality but ageing and going into an already ageing team.

Imagine we sign Sancho for stupid money and he flops. We're right to try to minimise the fees we pay for the players we target.

If that happens it happens. We’ll probably have to pay stupid money to get him but I wouldn’t criticise the club if he flopped.

If we went and signed say the likes of Jiménez or Koulibaly for huge money and they flopped I would criticise.

Paulinho actually did really well for them.

Pjanic is a good player.

It’s the ones like Turan, Aleix Vidal, Braithwaite and Kevin Prince Boateng that were truly bizarre

It's crazy money given the present economic situation that's likely to get worse.

Just goes to show however good you are you have to keep getting it right to stay ahead.

Fergie was the master of this.

Not so sure Fergie got it that right in the transfer market in his later years.

His strength was in being able to get the most out of what he had

Their transfer dealings have been staggeringly bad since Neymar left. A lot of absolutely terrible signings.

Expecting a major overhaul this summer, should be an entertaining watch from the sidelines.

its not helped by the fans of clubs like barca n RM though, absolute clown fans. Coutinho stats weren't even that bad for Barca for example. RM fans even turned on Ronaldo ffs. Also player politics in these clubs means manager dont really stand a chance, when the players run the joint.

I'm a Barça man 100% and I agree almost completely with you.

The problem we have is historical. It more or less stems from when Van Gaal was coach and he sold all the players from La Masia for next to nothing and bought in the Dutch national team for exorbitant fees and wages. Whilst Cocu and Kluivert would turn out to be good signings - players like Overmars, Zenden, Rudiger, Bogarde, Ronald de Boer etc were expensive and inferior to most of the players we sold.

When Van Gaal (twice) and Serra Ferrer left the club in 2001, we were effectively bankrupt, in huge debt.

Rijkaard and the acquisition of Ronaldinho surrounded by homegrown talent (Xavi, Pujol, Oleguer, with Iniesta and Messi towards the end) steadied the ship. But we relied greatly on the fact that players like Edgar Davids and Deco wanted to be at Barça to cut their wages. Although Guardiola (and Messi) will be the one everyone remembers, Rijkaard (with Ronnie) saved us in my opinion.

Just when we were on a stable financial footing, Guardiola wasted a fortune on Ibrahimovic, Henry, Chygrynskyi, Hleb etc etc etc.

Then post Guardiola, We bought Neymar for 90m € and sold him for 270m. We still managed to waste more money than we made on Dembele and Coutinho. We overspent on Griezmann - buying him at least 2 years too late.

The wages we pay to Messi would be the equivalent of three world class players. Basically, we are financially impotent. Still in debt and looking at bargain basement footballers to compliment the team. What is amazing is that by the law of averages, we should have found at least one gem in all these footballers who have come and gone in the last decade, but our recruitment team is so awful that we have bought dud after dud.

Now, the soap opera begins!

Do you guys think is genuinely possible Messi could leave? Where would he even go? Back to Argentina could arguably be the only realistic option
