was always on the cards, very surprised cook is not there

I've always rated him, just needed better around him (players and coaching).

Chuffed for the lad, well deserved - hope he becomes a regular.

Southgate had has hand forced in a way as Jamaica wanted KP to switch allegiances and play for them. Thus, Gareth see's KP in his long term plans and someone he doesn't want to lose.

you recon the ungland set up is better the bielsa's?

Like most I couldn't see him in a champioship winning side several years back - its lovely to be proved completely wrong.

"I always go back to Redders & Lucy. They pegged
him as being a star back then. Said it just needed
the right coach. Take a bow Messiah."

And he's one that every Coach has used when coming in!..

Seems Bielsa has brought out more of what they saw in him, he would have been good and no reason why he wouldn't have made it, Bielsa has turned him into a better player and maybe brought his call up a bit sooner than it might have been!..

Well done Kalvin, hope he achieves his goal as far as his career goes!..

Will be interesting to see how he does in the England team. We need a player with his passing range. Injuries have helped his cause, but if he can impress he may force his way into the reckoning for the Euros.

No mate. I was referring to his ability 2 or 3 years ago, prior to Bielsa. I always thought he needed better around and mentoring him (Redders had left).

I'd hope the england set up might add further to his development ….

and Eric Dier

Eric Dier will soon be having a lot more free time.
Kalvin's coming for his place.

Dier’s in at cb.

Phillips is competing with Barkley, Henderson, Winks, Rice and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Rice will start and KP will challenge

Personally see Rice as a defender. I was in Porto and watched us live when De Jong tore us apart and Rice didn’t look a MF to me

Will depend on what kind of midfield Southgate wants to go with. I don’t think Rice will start every game, especially when there are games where we’ll be on the ball more. He’s used Winks for those kind of games. So Phillips could compete with him for a place in the squad next summer.

The stick Philips used to get on here......what a transformation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was one of those. He was so inconsistent and gave the ball away so much.

Bielsa has transformed him from day 1. I remember the first Bielsa game against Stoke - I really was in disbelief that MB had picked Phillips for that opening game.

I'm delighted to have had to eat humble pie for the entirety of the last two seasons. He has barely put a foot wrong in that whole time.

I couldn't decide who was worse, Kalvin or Eunan. Glad we kept him, though

Infamous in our house. My dad once turned round to me and my brother and said "he works hard, our Kalvin, aye, but reckon he will find his level at Doncaster Rovers in League One".

Aye. That aged well.
