His determination to see this through suggests he has been hard done by imo, but it would be nice to see a bit of humility from him regarding the fact that he put himself in this position, if nothing else.

I suspect we will see an element of an apologetic tone after he’s back at United and the re-trial is over, perhaps.

Ole will be furious I suspect.

Yeah, Maguire has handled the whole thing like a thick privileged footballer.

Which to be fair is what he is.

Just bribe the right official and he'll get off

He should have been jailed for that series of offences

A normal person would have been I’d bet.

It’s great that the forum has an expert in Greek law to help us understand the context of Maguire’s punishment.

The initial hearing sounded really poorly handled by the Greek court, so no surprise he’s appealed. We’ll see what happens.

You see what happens when you overplay for a player and give captaincy before he proves himself and his character.

Conviction has now been nullified, and the retrial will allow his lawyers to provide evidence in his defence that they were denied being allowed to show in the original trial.

Everything I’ve read suggests they’ve tried to rush this through to get a conviction and, consequently, a big fine.

Now Maguire may or may not be guilty, but it certainly doesn’t sound like due process was carried out.

What proof do you have of your claim?

Being a wealthy premier league player it may be he already thought along those lines. The captaincy is likely irrelevant

"Harry Maguire found GUILTY of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery"

he was found Guilty, he is certainly entitled to appeal the decision but you go try that on Saturday night and see where you end up!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, thanks for the continued legal advice and expertise.

I doubt there are many options open to you on a Saturday night where you can lodge an appeal against a conviction.
