Obviously all deals aren’t the same but I do find it a little worrying that this deal can be conducted so quickly yet we don’t seem to have done anything else in the market.

I agree, I can't remember the last time that we did a quick deal like this.

As far back as last year ajax had confirmed that Donny was leaving this transfer window. Their PR machine was in overdrive to highlight the victory in keeping him for the year when money clubs were circling.

Madrid were initially seen as front runner but seemingly dropped out of the race pre covid. The deal was their to be done for utd since. The fear was utd waited too long and barca might enter the race as part of their rebuild.

My point is, I wouldn't give us too much credit for being quick but if we pull it off it seems a smart deal.

We don’t know that it was quick and we don’t know what is being done confidentially.

It’s all good, our signings have been very good of late and DVB adds to that.

Don't know if we got the deal done quickly or if we managed to keep it under wraps. It might have been easier to do that since we were dealing with Van Der Sar.

Sat Nav

From what I’ve read it sounds like it was, United only contacted Ajax yesterday with a bid which was accepted straight away. Sounds like things sped up once he was left out of the Ajax match day squad on Saturday and Barca showed no interest.

Spurs made an offer for him as well, if we're going by reports. But didn't match our offer.

Was it quick or did we just not hear about it until late into the negotiations?

Ajax seem to be a well run club, maybe they didn’t go to the press to spark a bidding war like others may?

Don’t be so naive matth. We’ll have been scouting him and speaking to Ajax for months.

I agree with you regarding your last point, I do think he'll surprise a lot of United fans, Myself including.

I think you were procrastinating as usual, but once Koeman was appointed Barça boss and linked to every Dutch player under the sun, United got worried and gave Ajax what they wanted. I'm not sure the Barça board actually wanted him though.

Fact is, that we all have been and rightfully so, given Man United an incredibly hard time as they are without a doubt the worst team of negotiators.

They managed to get a transfer like this done with very little background noise and hiccup, so fair play.

On to screw*ng up the next one and many more

No doubt he would have been on our radar for months if not years and we will have likely had regular contact with club and agent but from reports the actual contact of offer was all done and accepted yesterday. The Sancho transfer on the other hand has been going on for months with Dortmund only allowing negotiations to be conducted through a middle man. One thing though that does seem to be similar is that both Ajax and Dortmund have a fee that needed to be met for any agreement to be made, luckily Donny’s seems quite a good price whereas Sancho‘s is very high and the stumbling block which Ed seems unwilling to agree with.

Good step forward. Hopefully we strengthen further to properly challenge for silverstone next season

How good is he actually though? Admittedly I’ve only seen a few glimpses of him from the CL 2 seasons ago.

Bruno level? Not quite but better than Pereira?

Anyone got a good opinion on him?

He looks after the ball far, far better than Bruno does. He’s a tidy finisher, arrives in the box well and is very good technically. His passing is smart and clever without being elaborate and he works hard off the ball. He’s probably a bit more well-rounded than Bruno as a player but he’s on a completely different planet to Pereira.

I’ve read he’s played deeper on occasion. It’d be great if he’s useful as alternatives to both Pogba and Bruno.

Relatively cheap + doesn't seem much competition to sign him = quick transfer

I don’t think we will spend enough for that. However this signing is the sort everybody has been asking for, strengthening the squad with players genuinely good enough to be playing every week.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him play a deeper role for us as he's pretty versatile and tactically intelligent plus he's a quality player who not only takes more care in possession than Bruno but probably any midfielder we have. With that being said though I think he does his best work in more advanced areas, finding space in between the lines and in the box and combining with the forwards and full-backs.

I'm sure he'll have no trouble adapting to United but it'll just be interesting to see how he does in a side that's a lot more individualistic than the Ajax team he played in.

We don't play like Ajax do who are more structured and patient in the way they play, focusing heavily on positional play to open up space, short quick passing combinations and third man runs. We're also not a team that retains and passes the ball as well as Ajax.

Was the AWB deal a long one? That seemed fairly easy to iirc

posted on 31/8/20

I think we are confusing quick here as from when we found out about it thanks to Matth, to us getting it done. Have we got it done yet officially?

How long has the window been open?
