A friend of mine who is a Watford season ticket holder and has been a massive fan of Deeney said to me that he has had an awful season and is now way past his best - so we can put that one to bed!

Mentioned this on another thread the other day.

I can't imagine many of us at the start of this window thought we'd be in for the likes of the two Rodrigo's with quotes from Kinnear about looking at "the cream of the championship". With hindsight I think that was a bit of subterfuge.

We often focus on learning from recruitment mistakes but flipping that around you can also learn from success.

You make an unlikely but ambitious approach for Bielsa. It comes off. You take the same approach to recruitment. As long as you have budgeted for it why not reach for the stars and approach these players?

Hope no one misunderstands the intent on my original comment. I'm as excited as anyone, I'm really looking forward to seeing the team perform in the Prem.

It's maybe just the burning of 16 years ago that haunts a bit. I do think things are different now, I do want us to sign quality over quantity - and that costs per player - so yes, the signs are good that god willing we're having a shrewd and successful window.

I don't think AR is anything like Bates, Cellino and their clueless Bankers, he's made mistakes while learning, everybody does its normal!..

But at the same time, he's not doing a Ridsdale!..

He's said himself he likes to take risks and sometimes they pay of, its a gamble and the way he is he'll lose some win some!..

Don't think he's one for throwing money at anything unless he thinks its worth it!..

And any money now coming the clubs way we should feel safer with AR managing it than any of the dumbasses before him!.

I get all the money coming in, but mentioning sale of tshirtsYou dont get much of the sale, clubs traditionally receive 7.5% commission from the sale of a shirt.

You sell them for £60, you sold 110,000 in previous years, so lets say you got £500K for shirt sales. 2 weeks player wages.

The club buys merchandise for its stores at a wholesale price to sell at retail. The customary retail profit - >100% of cost is thus earned on its own sales.

The %age of sales is earned on sales through other channels, e.g., JD Sports, Top Shop, etc.

Leeds is earning good income from the vast majority of the shirt sales is my guess.

My guess is profit from shirts alone will approximate £4.5m (150,000 x £30), based on sales of £9m for just shirts. Of course, there will be substantial sales of other merchandise also.

For the year 2018/19, the largest sources of Revenue were:

Gate receipts........................25%
Other commercial revenue...24%
Merchandise sales................21%
TOTAL..................................70%

I expect gate receipts to be down to low double percentages or maybe even single digits, with or without Covid measures for this and future seasons.

The other 2 major sources will be significant higher, as of course TV income will be from its 3% in that year.
