Following his retirement as Liverpool manager in 1974, Bill Shankly was banned from the team's training ground in Melwood by his successors because he kept showing up unannounced in search of a bit of camaraderie. He was snubbed by the board of directors, who refused to admit him to their ranks.

He did a spot of punditry work and briefly hosted his own talk show on Liverpool local radio. Until well into his sixties, he played five-a-side every Friday with former Everton player Johnny Morrissey and a few others.

He never left the modest semi-detached house purchased when he became manager of Liverpool (then a second-rate, middle of the road outfit) in 1959.

After the Liverpool management instituted a 'No Shanklys' policy at Melwood, Shankly began turning up at Everton's training ground in Bellfield where he helped out with the training of junior teams.

To be fair to them they did make amends by naming some rusty bits of metal after him after he died.

Why do Man City fans always slag off Liverpool and Man Utd. Until they got augar Daddy they were not one of the elite teams. Bolton and Blackburn can claim to be historically more successful than City. Foreign investors throwing money at a club doesn't make you a great club. City have had success recently purely because of the investment. Jack Walker invested the money in Blackburn because he was a lifelong fan. At Man Utd we had the embarassing episode with those American idiots and the fraud Knighton who made every supporter cringe.
I realise thar most teams would welcome a massive investment but to lose the integriy of the team and what it has stood for for so many years is sad.
It is a difficult business and the team administratotrs have to do their best in the work they are employor but football agents are feathering their own nests, greedy players are listening to them and it is not the beautiful game any more . Some players don't play for the team any more, only for their pay packet. Thankfully ther are still true pros who do their job every week. Wage cap? Definitely. Or the beautiful game dies .Hopefully, Ole at United knows he is building his own team and that someone like Messi would be a disruptive influence on what he is trying to achieve. There obviosly will be teams clamouring to sign Messi Not at United please. He is not as good as Best, Charlton and Law and hasn't got the commitment of so many others we have had at Old Trafford. Wish I could havevseen him try to play against Roy Keane. Carnage.

Bartolomeu has made a mess of Barce and caused their decline. I am sure Messi is peed off at that, that that fecker has ruined the last few top years of his career.

So you stopped supporting United in 1991 then...?

I'm sure La Liga has it's share of semi-literate thugs as well.
