Out of curiosity, what is everyone's long term plan if a vaccine doesn't arrive? And what do you think the country's long term plan should be? This question is mainly aimed at the people who think anyone living any form of life again is the reborn Fred West! Genuinely curious to what your plan is long term, will you just stay in and merely exist till your time comes?

And if I did catch it and died then so be it, I haven’t died because of the virus I’ve died because it’s my time to. Although judging by how many people have unofficially had it and that everything and anything is a symptom we’re more than likely to have already had it without knowing even more than once.

Plus we also had more excess deaths from the 2017/2018 flu (50,000) than we’ve had from Corona which doesn’t get mentioned and we have a fackin vaccine for Flu

People die, that’s life unfortunately. Sooner people realise that and stop believing the OTT and scare mongering the better. It’s bad but it’s not Ebola ffs
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Errr. There is no vaccine for flu. As this is as always a best guess to try and build immunity based on the previous years strain. Also the reason the sick, elderly and those with underlying health conditions are given the pneumonia jab. The majority dying from pneumonia, not flu.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
What are they giving people in winter then?

Puts tinfoil hat on awaiting response
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not a vaccine pal. It is a version of what they think will be the years strain. It triggers an immune response that generates antibodies. If it were a vaccine, then people who get that jab wouldn’t die from it.

Takes about two weeks to get set and be useful. So you could catch flu from the majority who cough and sneeze openly and never wash their hands.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The flu vaccine isn't a vaccine. Wow, that's a new one where did you study?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It isn’t a vaccine. If it were, why do people who have had it die from flu

Read my explanation, it’s a best guess at the years strain and to help build immunity.

A more extreme situation yes but the concept is the same.

Why do painters wear masks?
Why do fumigators wear masks?
Why is it recommended you wear a mask when saw dusting?
Why do Asthma sufferers get sick when they are exposed to triggers such as dust?

The reason in each and every case is to prevent/minimise the rate at which you breathe in particles that can harm you. In the case of microbes/viruses wearing a mask also prevents/minimises the risk of you spreading pathogens to others if you are infected.

I've actually had the same argument with Sandy and it blows my mind.

Plan?
Step 1: wait and see what happens to those who do take it.
Step 2: wait for the second and third vaccine and see if they perform any better, or which one appears to be best. I.e., seems to work and does not kill you or have other long term consequences.
Step 3: Ask my personal physician what he thinks.
Step 4: decide to get vaccinated.
Step 5: Meanwhile, wear a mask at all relevant times, and maintain social distancing and get on with life which means working from home, hiking, swimming and weights. And yoga!

Numbers rocketing up now.

Worrying times.

I wonder what has caused this spike. Too soon for it to be schools.

I wonder what has caused this spike.

-----------------

I imagine it is the whole back at work, eating our and going to the pub thing. Along with a level of complacency all round. We're following the same pattern as Europe and whilst deaths still aren't at the same level thankfully, hospital admissions are rising all the time there. We won't be far behind
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not so sure - people have been going back to the pub for a while now, this seems to have happened quite recently.

Perhaps it is just a combination of factors.

Personally I wonder if the weather has something to do with it. We've had a couple of weeks of lower temperatures and wet weather - perhaps that is pushing people indoors, into cars together etc.

Is it a vaccine? Nope. Because it’s developed form a best guess of the following years strain. Production starting 6-9 months before needed.

If it were a vaccine, once you have had it, why need it again?

posted on 8/9/20

Well it's semantics isn't it, but the NHS literally call it a flu vaccine, so you'd have a hard time criticising someone for calling it that.

posted on 8/9/20

I wouldn’t say it’s even a semantic argument. The guy is simply incorrect.

With the flu jab you are inoculated with that particular strain, therefore it’s fine to call it a vaccination against that strain.
You have to take it again because it mutates

It’s not a vaccine against any strain. It’s a best guess.

To build immunity for what they think the strain will be. If it were a vaccine.....why do people die?

I suggest you take your issues up with the NHS and perhaps leave this discussion now.
