What our 'friend' fails to mention is that the other 7 killers are diseases such as cancer, heart disease, Dementia, resperatory NONE of which are either preventable or infectious. I think the opinion might change if someone close got it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I now know of 2 people who have had it.

1 lost his sense of smell and 1 carried on as normal.

Your point is what exactly?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know of a few and Al bit one have fully recovered although some were seriously ill.

Unfortunately the person who did not fully recover has permanent respitory damage. She was under 30, fit and healthy with no underlying conditions
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry to hear that, but sadly they’re not alone.

One of my colleagues’ neighbours, a young woman in her early 20’s, is a marathon runner. Now looks like she might be a former marathon runner as her lungs could be permanently damaged after contacting the virus.

Bit more serious than a temporary loss of smell.

The 2nd fella would have broken the law.

If he ever existed.

In fact I would venture to suggest he would have been a cretin.

To be infected & to carry on as normal.

But since you just made that whole thing up, no real harm done

When people value money over life that’s an issue.

I know plenty who have lost their jobs including family.

Friends & extended family.

But they are still alive.

I know it's just Timmy winding you up but issue or not, it is what our leaders must make decisions on and they do, regularly.

As discussed, there is no infinite pot of money that does not cost lives in other ways. Easy to label current covid deaths. Harder all the subsequent suicides, hearts, cancers, perforated bowels etc. i.e. making decisions on the value of covid deaths versus different deaths. Can't be easy but the fact remains people are valuing certain lives over others. We would all do it if push came to shove.

Problem is, without money how do we as a nation arm ourselves with the resources to continue fighting this virus and future pandemics?

Without the ventilator's the death toll would have been 3x worse (optimistic estimate), where do you think those machines came from? Disclaimer: it wasn't a charity shop esque donation!

I’m not advocating for everyone to sit at home until there’s a vaccine.

But there is a need to break the back of the virus so to speak before letting everyone loose again. I live in NZ, i work in essential services as part of the food supply chain, i worked right through.

Other people didn’t, we got rid of it, it came back and we managed the area it came back into. It’s allowed the country and very priveledged position of recovering quicker than others.

Dread to think what the country will be like in a years time. The unemployment will be at least 15 20 percent.

Just seen one of those street singers in my town who has with him a contactless machine to give him a tip, how depressing, step closer to being a cashless society and every negative that comes with it

I love being cashless. Quicker, cleaner, easier and I’ve earned about 1000,000 air miles in the last 4 years. Haven’t paid for a flight in ages

It also gives banks the power to freeze people's money "for their own good".

I don’t really keep much in the bank other than a rainy day fund. Everything else is invested elsewhere and can easily be accessed without a bank account or cash

Big difference is that Sweden could go for herd immunity because they had the resources in reserve to do so. We didn't.

Just shows what can be done when you have well funded public services. We prefer tax cuts.
