Most transfer journalism is click bait garbage. Very few know what they are talking about.

The Academy seems to be doing great work in terms of acquisitions right now.

After Mejbri and Hoogewerf last season, they’ve brought in four more pretty exciting looking lads being chased by a host of clubs, three of whom are from very well respected academies.

Obviously where fees aren’t such an issue, we seeming to be attracting and securing the right players.

True, I am actually suprised how much we've done in recruiting youth.

Looks like we’ve signed that Charlie McNeil off City, he used to play for us.

From what I’ve read that Norwegian lad, Hansen-Aaroen is the most highly rated rated (after Mejbri) of the youngsters we’ve signed. He made his debut for Tromso the other month at the age of 15.

Yeah, I hadn’t seen that update. Make it five then.

Hansen looks like a right cocky little facker on the ball. He’s a complete punt given his age and size, but will be fun to watch for the U18s. One of those players that you don’t really want to mature too quickly. Just let one of your CBs give him the ball then let him pretend he’s Diego Maradona

What is your take on this Hannibal lad? From the little I have seen he looks to have quick feet around the box a hit like Greenwood.

He’s a little scrappier than Greenwood, but he does have two very quick feet, yeah.

There’s a fantastic intensity about his play. He wants the ball and he wants to make things happen quickly. Seemingly absolutely hates it when he gives it away, and will scrap like an absolute monster to keep it in 50-50s and win I t back, a bit like Brandon.

Looks like he’s an absolute nightmare to play against. Picture trying to get a fresh bone off a hungry and overexcited Fox terrier.

His close control and dribbling look unreal from the video I saw of him, rosso. Obviously how that translates to other here is another matter. But it’s pretty impressive that he’s already made his senior debut, even if it is in Norway.

Wonder how Pep is feeling watching the likes of Sancho, Diaz, Matondo, Bobby Duncan and now McNeil walk away.

He has to take responsibility for a good chunk of that, of course, but he can’t be comfortable watching all of that talent walk out the door. They clearly aren’t able to make the argument to these kids that there’s a path for them to the first team.

Did Brooks walk out as well, or did they let him go?

Bobby Duncan played for Liverpool.

I doubt he cares. It’s not his remit to progress the academy players into the first team, so I don’t think he’s that responsible for these players leaving if it’s club policy to sign all the best attacking players.

From what I’ve read of McNeil he’s leaving as he’s behind Rory Delap’s son in the pecking order.

Duncan left City after something like seven years to move to Liverpool

I can’t help but feel it must rankle at him at least a bit given how much he used to talk about his pride in La Masia. City’s Academy is undoubtedly turning out some top players, but it seems like few of them are interested in sticking around.

I think the repeated failures in the CL rankle more.

Pep’s been brought in to dominate the league and win the CL. City’s transfer policy is indicative of a team that wants to win now, even it they’ve made bad signings.

La Masia is a cult. So what he says about that, having come through, and what he actually does at other clubs is a different thing altogether.

Sancho is the only top player that I think City made a mistake with - though you could argue he’s a better player for leaving than he’d have been had he stayed at City.

City obviously have a very good academy, but evidently very few of these players are good enough to make themselves even squad players at City, such is the level of quality in their squad.

I think City’s failures to encourage the use of academy players in the cups is a shame, though. Very few get much of a chance over the years. So that’s obviously gonna make kids leave if they cannot even get a debut at home to Rotherham, because Bernardo Silva is starting.

Probably not too bothered, especially in the case of McNeil who wasn't started games for the u18s. Sancho, well he could have played him a bit at 18 but at what cost, considering they won the league, League Cup and got to the quarters of the CL? Some players need to play now, like Sancho and some should show more patience. It's much more difficult to show patience when you've a load of superstar players ahead of you.
