In what way did Mendes bend the rules?

posted on 15/9/20

Slightly off topic, but wasn't there something about agents and club owners getting into bed with each other, which is, of course, perfectly ok in the midlands, sorry for bringing it up. Anyway, Spangles, who is the better coach?

Nuno

If you want to discuss our coach it would be as well to learn how to spell his name.
Nuno Espirito Santo is our coach, who the feck Santos is I have no idea

Don’t believe all you read about “spygate”! Much of it was embellished and made up, especially by Lampard and Derby.

Nuno a talented young coach. He's not in Bielsa's league, though.

Guo Guangchang, owner and founder of Fosun International Limited, owner of Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.
Jorge Mendes, Head of GestiFute SA, owned by Start SGPS SA, manged by Jorge Mendes wife
Sandra Manuela Pereira Barbosa Mendes. Financially backed by Fosun International.
Whats wrong with that.

That Leeds, with their history , can suggest that Wolves who they tried and failed to bribe are bending rules is an obscenity.
Kindly fook off.

Evidence of that?

It's not really comparable.

Bielsa worked on a fraction of the budget of Santos, the players Wolves ended up with in the championship was just like going into the 'edit database' on champ manager and contracting world class into a little second div team, from Birmingham.

Wait until the end of this season and we can then form a better opinion.

Santo was given world level players to start woth
Bielsa took mid level championship players and made the win the league by 10 points.
He also has the accredation from the world's best coaches and a whole baton who idolise him. His pro standing is leagues above Santos.

Bottom line is that both clubs are very happy with their managers and neither would be interested in a swap. And neither set of supporters will agree that the other club’s manager is better so this is not a thread that will reach any kind of consensus

Nuno has achieved over 50% win stats in his last three managerial positions and Wolves are delighted and relieved that he has extended his contract

Bielsa had a long spell at Bilbao with a 38% win ratio and then half a season in Lille with a 26% success record

I suspect going forward Nuno will be more reliable and it will be interesting to see how Bielsa does when the going gets tough for Leeds in the top flight

this, complelty agree.. lets not forget what Bielsa did for the club too... Santo was an addition to an already well run club... Bielsa turned the whole club around, as well as making us what we are on the pitch.

so far its taken bielsa 2 seasons to get promoted against nunos 1, do any leeds fans seriously think he can match nunos 2 7th places ?

Bielsa by some margin. Nuno has spent close to £230m and plays negative football, except when breaking. Bielsa plays the game as it should be - he's a purist and his side will finish above Wolves and possibly win a trophy.

Most agree that watching Wolves is laborious.

Probably best to ignore Uncle Herbert, biggest wum on this site and talks mostly cr@p.

The acquisition by Nuno of established ‘world class’ players to win the Championship is mostly a media myth, and Leeds fans should know about those. Let’s look at what he really did it with.
This was the basis of that side.
Ruddy - released by Norwich taken on a free, same goes for Ryan Bennett. Doherty, Saiss, Coady, already at the club when he arrived, hadn’t pulled up any trees previously, all low transfer fees. Douglas, minimal fee from some unknown Turkish side. Gibbs White, Batth, came through our youth. N’Diaye (previously on loan at Hull), Miranda (Rio Ave), both minimal costs. Bonatini came from a Saudi side, I think £5 million. Of the 4 that cost around £10 million, Cavaleiro, Costa, had about 20 senior appearances each at their respective clubs before joining, Jota never played a senior Athletico Madrid and had been on loan to Porto and Boly had only made 10 appearances for Porto in his 2 seasons there. Hardly ‘world class’ and doubt they would have been easily found on football manager. Neves was probably the only signing with a decent reputation, and I’d argue he was up and coming at Porto rather than an established player. He also cost us £4 million pound less than Bielsa paid us for Costa.

We hardly took our pick of European superstars. Myth.

Since we have been in the Premiership we have broken the £20 million bracket twice, once for Jiménez, who has been superb, and more recently for an 18 year old Portuguesa who is yet to kick a ball.

Bielsa is a great tactician and has a renowned reputation I agree, but don’t underestimate Nuno’s abilities. I wouldn’t swap him for anyone at the moment. Nuno doesn’t have to sit on a bucket, live above a shop and walk to the training ground to look humble, he is humble, and one of the best upcoming managers in world football.

As has been said, Nuno is a good, young coach, who has done a good job at Wolves. Bielsa has the advantage of much longer in the game. Nuno may get to be one of the best coaches in world football (and the job he has done on Doherty, Boly, Coady etc is impressive), but, for me, is not there yet.

Bielsa is. So, for now, Bielsa is the better manager. Would happily taken Nuno as Bielsa's replacement when he leaves though!
