This window is far from over just yet and even if we don’t bring in anyone else we will be fine.

I’m not convinced by this. We’ve not had good enough preparation to this season due to finishing the season later than anyone.

And with the schedule and Ole’s reluctance to rotate - due to poor squad depth - we may struggle through a lot of games, if not to start with then at some point in the season when the players start to burn out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And lets not forget our traditional annual injury crisis.

I took that as a given, didn’t even need mentioning.

If our transfer business is done then we will not make CL next season. Our squad isn’t good enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really?

Because I’m struggling to name 4 better teams or squads in the league currently.

Agree with the overall message of the article, though don't feel as confident about our squad as you are.

I think Bruno will start to find it harder this season as he becomes better known, tactically, and I think we lack alternative options in many areas.

Well it's pretty easy to name three immediately. It's just a case of whether Arsenal and Tottenham with strengthened squads will be able to overhaul us. I wouldn't say it's a guarantee but it's a lot more likely than how the squads stood before the transfer window opened, which isn't great news

Transfer windows should be a week long, no public announcements made and the day after the club does a big reveal, like drop a curtain and there's Mbappe in your clubs jersey, that be way more craic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is one of the best ideas I've ever read.

Superb.

Imagine a club dropping their curtain and finding Phil Jones standing there.

would that be the squad that made top 4 last season then, and who have signed a 40 million quid midfielder?

now im looking around at the teams that were around us and oooh.. look at that, none of those have really improved either

Those teams were a long way behind us especially in the 2nd half of the season when we had far more quality available.

Unless Bale comes in fit and firing or Arsenal add more real quality I’d be surprised if they end up ahead of us.

Yes Dunc that would be the squad that Ole had no faith in as we limped over the line at the end of last season.

Top idea, although the disappointment if the curtain drops and no one is there or you see Bale, not sure the fans could handle that.

Spurs and Arsenal sacked their managers as they were underperforming so badly, to be fair.

I think Spurs could be really facked when you look at their schedule up to Xmas.

Arsenal should have enough to be competing for a fourth spot. There’s a good chance we could be looking over our shoulder, which to me suggests we aren’t fine as they aren’t exactly stellar teams.

Yes Dunc. We limped over the line. Did you not see how tired our players looked in the last four or five league games? Southampton and West Ham? Even In the Europey we were knackered.

The squad we have won’t last a whole season as Ole won’t use the squad as it’s rubbish. Likes of martial and rashford and greenwood will overrun and become injured/ lose form.

Dunc I want to see ambition and clear strides to compete for the title. Our transfer activity does not indicate this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not for lack of trying. The idea the Glazers are just happy to get CL and then not spend is the biggest load of crap. Especially when it’s qualified with the idea it’s so they can get their dividends. They get that anyway, they aren’t just pocketing transfer funds ffs.

Ole said already we can't rotate in the same way playing in Champions league as you need your top players involved

We'll either be shattered by Christmas or risk being a mile off as we've no depth up front or wide

Midfield will be fine.. Donny a great signing

The rest of the squad has no quality in depth

4 transfer windows and we'll have signed 5 first players... Its not really a rebuild... Its nowhere near enough if we want to challenge

I am fed up with having to explain this to our moronic posters.

The problem with such a gradual rebuild (both ingoings and outgoings) is that it becomes perpetual. The guys who were at their peak at the start of it are past it by the end, so you never get past the stage of transition.

I suspect Dunc can actually see this. The OP probably not.

I think there has been massive frustration that even if we do get signings in before the window shuts, it has been dragged out to the final weeks, again. Chelsea started their spending long before the season ended. I could look past it if this were a one off window but it's every window.

Yeah i can see this.

i think one major problem though is squad sizes.

weve been left with so much shiiiite that we dont have the squad space or even the wage budget to bring in more than we have without having to ship out some of the dross that has been left by previous managers and previous poor contract decisions

weve managed to get some big wages off of our books, but there are still the likes of jones, Rojo, Jesse that are on a fair whack but are not attracting any attention... which is telling within itself

chelsea could.. they had money burning a hole in their pocket because they havent been able to spend their normal budget.. without adding hazards on too.
