Might take us 4 or 5 games to get going

We’re going to have to be a bit patient this next few weeks.

He said more in hope than expectation.

He can’t keep playing Lindelof. It will be a long few weeks if he does.

Ed and Judge need to stop effing about in the transfer window as well.

Hopefully works in our favour at the end of the season when everyone has finished playing and we still have 4 or 5 games left to play about with the ball ourselves and get max points. We can realistically finish 15 points off top at the end of the season and still win the league.

It will be what it is. Lack of preparation etc is true. That goes beyond the gap between games. We finished last season in third place. All the preparation in the world won't close a gap that's been created in the time since.

Pretty unbecoming of the man most hold responsible for our constant sagas in transfer windows to beg fans in the match day program not to lose faith in his methods. In normal circumstances, he'd be a dead man walking. In reality, well be going through this same process again in 2 years time

Who’s he going to play VC?

Bailly is injury prone and has a moment of madness in him. Smalling seems all but out the door. Tuanzebe doesn’t seem to be trusted.

Needs to go buy someone. I’ve said all summer signing Ben White should have been top of your list. He’d form a partnership with Maguire for years and is going to be a star, he’s just signed an extension at Brighton now though so I’d say he’s off the table now

Agreed OP, some shocking reactions after one game!

Let’s see how the likes of City, Villa, Burnley get on before assuming it’s all down to fitness. Maybe the preparation was poor, maybe we just had a stinker.

Palace are a quick team, and we have a very slow defence playing a high line. Gifting a goal 7 minutes in gave them all the DJ ride de they needed.

Tuanzabe at least likes to play that covering role in a CB partnership.

Maybe he can’t be trusted, but Lindelof 100% cannot. The bloke gives a goal or a chance away every game. Liability.

And some people thought it was a stupid idea to rest our main players for the EL after we had guaranteed CL football.

This season was always going to be tough on our squad but adding those 3 EL games meaning our season was going to finish late meaning a far shorter rest and preseason was always going to cause problems.

No idea how much this journalist actually knows but don’t sound remotely surprised and seems like Ed being his usual useless.

Good job we have an easy run of games in October then

Just for the record Tuenzebe is injured and has been for a while I actually think he would be trusted.

Yeah, it is. I think considering where we’re at, we’ve been very lucky with the fixture list.

I find it very hard to take that our best defender yesterday was McTominay. I believe fitness was a huge factor most of those players are better than that. However Lindeloff will cost us points, Pogba lacks bite in midfield. I do wonder if we try him further up the pitch maybe wide left or right?

We undoubtedly had a stinker. That isn’t up for debate.

The point is that there wasn’t time for preparation Busby.

Most of the players haven’t been back with the club for fitness training and basic drills for more than a fortnight either side of the international break. Some of those yesterday hadn’t had more than three training sessions with their teammates.

Villa played four preseason friendlies before their first competitive game in the EFL Cup. Their first PL game will be their sixth game.

Burnley played five preseason games in a three week unbroken preseason stretch.

Our first PL game was effectively our first first team fixture since the EL semi.

Lindelof will probably remain Maguire’s number two in the short term unless a CB is brought in, but he needs a rest too.

Got a knock during the run-in having played every game for weeks, then came back in for the EL not looking full fit and played 180 mins for Sweden.

We’ve got a whole bunch of players who really needed a month off and really got a week.

Yeh, it looks like we are a few games behind.m
Question, how did this happen?
We were the last playing competitively, but somehow the lads seemed to squeeze in holiday time and completely switch off.
Times like these I look to the great Michael Jordan.
Training all year round, when everyone else is sleeping, taking a holiday here and there, he’s putting in the work, so he can hit the ground running.
THAT is a winning mentality. THAT is the discipline.
THAT is the sacrifice.
This doesn’t seem to be the case with UTD.

posted on 20/9/20

I think the players needed a break Stringer.

What I absolutely cannot believe is firstly, that some of them were allowed to travel outside the UK on holiday, meaning that they had to quarantine when they returned home and were unable to train (maybe there were extenuating circumstances in some cases, but I haven’t heard of any and it would seem unlikely in the case of AWB, for example) and that secondly, they weren’t all withdrawn from international duty and told to train with the club.

You’re right, they needed to rest, but surely with the new season 4 weeks away, surely the sacrifice of a holiday abroad had to be advised at least.
It looked to me that it come like ‘End of School term’..
‘Have a good time lads, and don’t get into trouble haha’

Just think in these exceptional times we’re in, due diligence wasn’t something worth considering.

I remember reading in AWBs case that the club weren't happy about it. Obviously not much they could do to stop him but essentially he's missed the start of the season so he could go on holiday - just seems incredibly unprofessional to me.

if he went to a country that was on the list at the time, they could presumably fine him for not being ready for pre-season.

might be a bit harsh perhaps, but i can understand why the club is a bit cheesed off that the players can't seem to exercise the tiniest bit of common sense when left to make their own choices.
