Can’t compare Scott to Lingard. Scott has shown promise with big game performances against Liverpool, Spurs, City etc. Lingard has never done that (only against Arsenal but that doesn’t count).

Offers enough to be backup whilst he’s learning his trade.

As does McT. Still a kid. Fourth, possibly fifth choice in midfield now. Homegrown, cheap, fit, reliable, dependable, gives 120% every time out.

Nobody is suggesting we should build our midfield around McT.

Greenwood brilliant

Lingard’s had plenty of big game performances. He’s actually a better footballer than McTominay, despite his poor form recently. But neither are good enough. At least McTominay isn’t on that much so is worth keeping around for squad numbers.
