I can't actually believe the decision. Begs the question as to what will happen in the semis/final if it is two of the PL big boys and one team is in the same situation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep, I feel the same. Obviously I'm glad we don't have to play the game but it sets a dangerous precedent. One, it's difficult to swallow on an ethical level as it encourages clubs not to get tested and two, the EFL have now pushed themselves into a corner where the same rule has to apply to much larger clubs in a more crucial stage of the tournament.

It effectively means that with the rising level of cases, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that a winner could be crowned without kicking another ball (that may actually be our only way of winning something under Jose).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It feels very much like they have done it because LO are a small team and perhaps because Spurs already have a congested schedule it was just too much hassle to sort out. Even without your point about other clubs being encouraged to hide any future cases, it is a terrible decision. But the possibility that lives could be put at risk moving forwards makes it an even worse decision. I am stunned by this.

Hang on! Have I just read this right? We've got to play Newcastle Sunday, Chelsea Tuesday and M Haifa Thursday? That's an unprecedented fixture overload. I've never seen that before. I really hope Jose prioritises the league and Europe. Carabao can do one if they're not willing to reschedule the tie.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It would have been the same schedule this week mate, had the Orient game taken place. At least next week no travel is involved.

1st XI v Newcastle, squad players versus Chelsea (although I would like Spurs to stuff em), 1st XI again in Europa Thrusday. Should be able to manage it OK.

Used to be a fairly routine fixture list back in the day, with multiple cup replays and two legged european games.

It’s a shame for Orient as they’ve done the right thing and lost out as a result. In doing the right thing they’ve protected us and, when you add that to the duty of care that PL clubs should have toward all lower tiers of the game right down to grass roots I’d hope we can make some sort of gesture so that they aren’t out of pocket ie donate our TV money from our next round fixture to them or something. Our fans have already shown the club the way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If they had used their noddle they had plenty of time to switch the game to WHL (they knew on Sunday their ground was shutting), even if they sent 11 youth team players over that had tested negative, they would then still have copped the TV money.

Nothing will happen to the big boys, didn`t Moyes and some West Ham players test positive just before their tie. The game then just went ahead.

Not a dangerous precedent mate, it is the rule set down before a ball was kicked. You have to fulfil your fixture, otherwise you forfeit it.

They weren't going to gain any financial benefits, nor were they going to win the tie. Probably sensible tbh. Interesting though had it been the other way around, or if Liverpool/Man U had cases.

Ridiculous fixture list. Who is in charge of this farce ?

Personally, would definitely priorities the PL and Europa, and basically give the Academy players a run out against Chelsea.

The FA expecting a team to play three games in six days, when the season is only two weeks old, is just stupid. They should be told to do one.

Apart from City ( who not surprisingly win it every year ) everyone else treats this unnecessary competition as a real inconvenience. I mean, it is so low down the pecking order now, winning it doesn't even get you a Europa league place next season.

I could live with our fixture list if there was no way round it but it was so avoidable. We've got a 2 week International break coming up!!?

I wish the clubs would get together and refuse to release their players when confronted with such stupidity after all they pay their wages.

If we basically forfeit the Chelsea game by sending out a youth team / second string - That’s got to be even more of a kick in the teeth to LO, who would have gotten an even bigger windfall from playing Chelsea.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t take that approach - but it’s gotta hurt LO

We can't risk going out of the Europa for the LC.

I hate losing to Chelsea as much as the next man but we have to prioritise the competition that carries a CL place for the winner.

Spurs won't put out a youth team. Can still put out a fairly decent 2and string. I doubt Chelsea will go full strength themselves.

Yes, but the rules were written before we had experienced an international pandemic. We are in unprecedented times. Of course it was a dangerous precedent to set. As has been pointed out, someone could win the cup without ever having kicked a ball simply because their opponents are legally unable to field a team. It is a stupid decision.

its so typical that Spurs get this stupid fixture pile up as well as a typically crappy draw in the far flung corners of the continent, and then Chelsea 2 days before another Europa game. Things always seem to conspire against us. Ideally we'd like to target both cups but it will be impossible to do so. Europa has to be the main one, but all of this is preceded by a home game vs Newcastle and followed by an away game at Old Trafford
