Pesci was apparently nothing like the real Tommy in Goodfellas, physically. The real Tommy was a big strong guy well over 6 ft. Credit to Pesci for still making him so intimidating.

Kitano's the best! Wasn't a huge fan of Brother but Hanabi is probably my favourite. Kikujiro is also great.

Brother is amazing. Not enough people have seen it. Love a Bittersweet Life as well. Asian cinema 🙌

De Palma's Scarface is suppsed to be ridiculous, that's the whole point, have tou not seen his movies?

Push it to the Limit song is perfect for it, total 80s coke music.

I feel like that song belongs more to a Rocky montage than a gangster flick myself.

So many great gangster movies from those mentioned in the op, to Once Upon a Time in America.

As great as Goodfellows was at the time, I can't bring myself to watch it again like I can with Once Upon a Time in America, which gets my top vote.

For those of you with a world cinema slant, I love Takeshi Kitano movies, Sonatine, Hana-bi, Brother, etc.

Is Goodfellows the British remake, reimagined in the PG Wodehouse?

‘RocknRolla is superb though.’

Hahahahahah

Don't start. It IS superb.

I need other opinions on it, this man is clearly not sane.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's terrible.

I remember the ending of that film was set up for a sequel. It never happened though as no one watched the first one.

Yeah, confession time.

I think Scarface is kinda overrated.

Tbh I also think Pacino might not be as good an actor as people say he is.

Used to really rate him, but... I dunno. He is very hammy in a lot of his films.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree with this. No doubting he is superb in The Godfather. But as he got older, his ego grew to such an extent that all he does now is chew the scenery.

I enjoyed Lockstock & Snatch, but he’s no visionary, more a competent/generic director.

On YouTube, I watched former Mafia member Michael Franzese talking about mob movies and how authentic they’re. He spoke about Goodfellas and said Henry Hill wasn’t all that in the mafia. He said he worked with Jimmy and Tommy but had nothing much to do with Paulie and was considered a bit of nobody coz he had alcohol and drug issues. Don’t know if it sour grapes on his part coz he grassed on them all like

As I nearly always prefer English fims I would go with:
The long Good Friday,
Get Carter;
Mona Lisa

I nearly always prefer English actors too. They don't have to be perfect looking, in fact not at all, they do need to be able to act though.
Yes, Bob Hoskins,
Helen Mirren
Pete Postlethwaite,
Alison Steadman
There is an endless list.
