interesting plans but why reduce the pl to 18 teams?
as for risdale he's right of course. it's like the security companies that get ex burglars to design their systems.
takes a crook to know a crook.

I presume they want to reduce to 18 teams to reduce the burden of number of games (same with scrapping one of the cups and the community shield).

IMO the proposals range from fair to ridiculous:
1. Redistribution of PL money to lower leagues: long long overdue in my opinion
2. Fewer games: worth a discussion
3. Special voting rights for 9 clubs: absolute insanity...I see absolutely no justification for this other than a power grab for said clubs.

Much as i loathe to say it, Ridsdale is right. Current set up just encourages Championship clubs to make 2-3 season gambles... and then restructure/restart if don't make it. Imagine what we'd be doing now if we didn't quite make it up last season...

Fewer games means only 17 home games per season per club for league games.

All clubs not in Europe would see income hit by that.

The plan is that the "big six" want to reduce the league games so that they can increase the number of European games, thus increasing their income substantially whilst being able to make the carefully worded claim that the changes don't increase their league income.

They already have the biggest piles of gold to sleep on. The changes they propose ensure that their beds get larger and more glittery and that they will be the only ones with them.

Not sure if the BBC is a wum site but most of what they say is usually accurate!..

Read Analysis and what Kieran Maguire says, I'd think that is basically what the rich Americans want to do!..

Its just another rip of thing that the Premier league are masters at, but this time the only people getting ripped of will be those outside the big boys bubble!..

Lucky this wasn't thought up when Ridsdale was with us, feck knows what would have happened!..

This the same premier league that wants clubs to start playing matches in America.

The most controversial aspects of Project Big Picture surround the gap it would create between the clubs at the top and bottom of a smaller, 18-club Premier League.

The 18th draft of the Project Big Picture document, a copy of which has been seen by The Times, makes clear how promoted clubs and those who have been around the lower reaches of the league would be impacted by a new merit money system which rewards performances over four seasons rather than just one.

Newly-promoted clubs would also have £25 million of prize money withheld for the first two seasons and given to them if they were relegated again as replacement parachute payments.

A table in the document of the proposed funding shows that if brought in at the end of last season then Manchester City would have earned £179.6 million and a newly promoted club almost four times less, £48.2 million. The actual Premier League earnings last season were £161 million for champions Liverpool and £95 million for bottom club Norwich.

More at link. I know there's an immediate need for cash in the lower leagues, but I'm not sure why Rick Parry seems signed up to this. Horrible opportunism.

I think by the time that might happen, they will have voted relegation out. The Premier League will be the biggest 18 clubs, the dream for small clubs to one day go toe to toe with the big boys will be over...and that will kill it for a lot of fans. Maybe the 14 clubs should vote the big 6 out now!

And of course it is no surprise that the two unmentionable Red clubs from the other side of the Pennines are the main players behind this - talk about ' I'm alright Jack' .
( Well actually replace with Glazer or Henry)

Mr Ridsdale you have a very bad memory or you are in complete denial. - oh I forgot it was all just a dream to you!

Actually do you ever get the feeling that a break away top flight is on the cards?

You’re right Wilko, and then it will pave the way for a European Super League.

Giving the power to just a few clubs is the first sign this is a bad idea! Some EFL clubs are being dazzled by the £250m but it’s just an advance not additional funds, right?

Looks like a couple of clubs have backtracked.
...........

Premier League clubs have "unanimously agreed" that 'Project Big Picture' will not be "endorsed or pursued".

Does this mean that this x-Liverpool bod Rick Parry should scrape his fat ass of his nice comfy FL chair and find a trapdoor to fall through?..

If things had have gone through they would have done with his blessings!..

Parry is a parasite of the worst order.

That plan was a shameless power grab by Glazer and Henry. I'm amazed it has failed, to be honest.
