But should it be made available to the consumer is the question?

People are supposed to be given choice in a free world. I’m genuinely struggling to understand two things.
One being when posters on here suddenly became food conscious.
The other being when they failed to grasp they don’t have to buy and then eat it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
People will eat the cheapest crap available.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. It's all very well saying "cool ill just spend more for better quality" but what about all the poor families out there struggling to feed their kids ffs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmmm. I do get that.
I find it amazing though that many will buy all the non necessaries and wish list stuff in life but skimp on food, the very essential we all need.
And yes I know everyone can’t afford to go expensive on stuff but simply cutting crap out would help.

Software development isn't as easy as throwing money at it and hoping it works. Has to be thought through properly and these things take time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lots of time or practically unlimited cash.
Either will work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It takes 9 months to grow a baby. It doesn't take 3 women 3 months to do it.
Developer I work with used that expression the other day
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Funny.
Completely unrelated to software development of course.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well yes and no. Throwing extra developers at a problem doesn't necessarily decrease the time taken to build and test a piece of software.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With 12 billions founds spent there is zero excuse for the shambles they've created.
Stand up a team of skilled developers, break it all into user stories written by a team of BAs, have daily stand ups and keep everything moving. Have a dedicated product owner responsible for each section and be testing whats been developed as you build.
Basically work agile (I guarantee they've worked in waterfall) and there is no reason the app shouldn't be for for purpose.
Id build it in 3 month with unlimited cash for devs, QA and POs no problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What a load of sheite
Why don’t you offer your services to the country and sort this all out then?
Sakes.
“I’d sort it out with every expert and limitless amounts of cash”
So would anyone ffs.
It’s up there with “my Nan would have scored that”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not at all.
They've had limitless money and resources that affords and still fooked it up.
12 Billion should be a national outrage given the Irish have managed a better product for 700m.
Thieving duplicitous whankers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But you’re comparing apples with pears. They are two completely different things.
Put this up earlier
https://fullfact.org/online/ireland-uk-tracing-app/
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Should have read it too then
We’ve been alerted to a screenshot circulating across WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter, which claims that the cost of the test and trace system in Ireland is £773,000, while the UK’s test and trace system has cost £12 billion.
This is a misleading comparison. The £773,000 refers just to the cost of designing the test and trace app in the Republic of Ireland. The £12 billion refers to the UK government’s provision for the whole test and trace system in England.
By comparison, the chief executive of the Irish Health Service Executive has said the full-year cost of its test and trace system could reach €700 million.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have got no idea what your point is other than reinforcing the notion that the figures being quoted are being misinterpreted and are essentially at completely different stages.
So erm, thanks.
Fwck me. Some amount of experts on here again. Yet all claim to being equally unaware of what we are dealing with.
Amazing stuff
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You've had a mare here Ginger.
I said "12 Billion should be a national outrage given the Irish have managed a better product for 700m."
You said that was comparing apples to pears.
Cost of full test and trace (Ireland) 700m
Cost of full test and trace (UK) 12 BILLION.
Apples with apples.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And one of them works.
Eh?
It’s not finished yet.
ffs
So £12b for a broken app 😂
Complicated juke. Underinvestment but also small volume specialist equipment with prices too low to merit upgrade investment. Also purchasing specs that would not be suitable to either side but urgency to spend and get something compromises on the support side. My own industry was like that too. Drop support so they have to buy a new one. Ultimately, we had to operate some off network.

Fwxakes. It’s pretty simple
Don’t buy it if you don’t want to eat it.
Sheeesh
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not as simple as that. Our food labelling is pretty stringent compared to the US. If those standards are also lowered we could be eating any ole schite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why?
Is our food labelling changing?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I did say in the previous post
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No. You said “if”.
I’m asking if they are?
There is absolutely no mention of us changing our labelling requirements but if in doubt I’d suggest not buying food that has “produce of the U.S” or whoever it is, especially if it’s a chicken which seems to be the main thing everyone is so up in arms about.
Most of them will likely tuck into bacon, sausage (think of the utter crap in them), black pudding, and fried tattie scones of a weekend.
And then whine about U.S. chicken.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
After they’ve had a few smokes and some instant coffee.
And before they scoff some crisps mid morning and maybe an iced bun.
Dinner of roast chicken (they won’t likely have looked where it comes from already), overdone veg, thick fatty gravy, roast potatoes and maybe pudding.
Then sit on their fat rses the rest of the day and evening because they’ve to go to work and sit at their office chair all the next week.
I can go on all night in this

Apparently, 12bn to T&T 56m people in England & Wales with the app being part of that.
Versus 700m to T&T 4.9m people in Ireland including their app as part of that.
The app is a red herring for both given the low uptake.

I think it's because it's easy to peddle high invoices under the guise of IT or systems etc If it doesn't work in the end or get completed the next government will scrap it (to do their own) and will happily use it as a stick to beat the old government. Rinse and repeat for each party.

Imagine if the company that made the app was the same one that wasted 20 billion on labours failed IT system for the NHS 😅
Can any of these clowns run things effectively? Clearly not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Having worked for the NHS and local government, IT always seems to be a major blind spot for public services and underfunded. Never understood why that is given how reliant we are on it now, and how much more reliant we will be in the future.
The NHS still runs on Windows XP ffs 🤦♂️
Local government are a bit better but get glitches on a weekly basis.. been a few times since WFH where I have no network access or I can't get drives to open.
Mental.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it's because it's easy to peddle high invoices under the guise of IT or systems etc If it doesn't work in the end or get completed the next government will scrap it (to do their own) and will happily use it as a stick to beat the old government. Rinse and repeat for each party.
Scandalous indeed and it's workers like you that don't get pay rises and bare the stress of not having the systems you need to do your jobs.

The money the deloite contractors must have been on! Over 2.3k daily rates I read. Scandalous stuff, I could have built that thing with a few quality developers no problem, in Ireland we built one for just over 700k and its doing a job.
