I think it’s good that the club do the right thing and look after someone who got injured in the circumstances he did. Whether a year’s contract is the correct answer I genuinely couldn’t say. It would take an extreme set of circumstances for him to ever get game time, if he does get fit. But in terms of the bigger picture, it sends a good message.

You mean like two of your three main CB's returning from international duty with injuries Milky?

Yeh

Assuming he eventually returned to full fitness without being a limping crock... a big assumption, I think it would need more than 2 cb’s out for him to get game time.

Stranger things have happened, but point is, it makes no sense from a purely football perspective. Not least with bielsa’s ‘small flexible squad supplemented by 23s philosophy.

From a ‘club’ perspective it’s a different matter.

There are not just premier league games. If Leeds are drawn against a lower league club in the FA cup I doubt if Bielsa would field the full first team. If Berardi is fit he would be a useful option. Giving Koch/Cooper a rest and reducing their risk of picking up an injury.

Not sure he will be fit enough for the rounds we are likely to be up against lower league opposition Bianco, we don't really get that far in the FA Cup either.

I hope he recovers in time to play football for us in the Premier League, before his contract expires, as I think he deserves it.

You really think he's ever going to play the premier league Maid, what position? Cooper, Koch, Llorente and Struijk ahead of him in central defence, only way I would see him playing is at right back but honestly, if Ayling is out I see Dallas shifting over and Davis or Alioski playing at left back. Nowhere near good enough for the Prem.

Many thought he wasn’t good enough for a promotion challenging team in the Championship, but he performed excellently when called upon. I hope he gets a game at some point this season - to prove or disprove if he is good enough. I shall be sad when he leaves us, but that’s just me being sentimental!

I think the whole issue comes down to one of sentimentality, I get the whole, he was injured whilst out of contract and therefore we have a responsibility to ensure he's not just left high and dry but actually wonder where that leaves him in a years, I suppose he his paid while he recuperates.
I think football clubs certainly have a duty of care to players in their employ but seldom fulfil that duty with younger players for example who haven't had the opportunity to establish themselves like he did.
What makes Bera special?

From day one, he's been one of us. He is much better than he gets credit for. And yes Els, loyalty does count for something.

Top guy Berra, understands LUFC 100%. Brilliant move by club, Berra will do work outside and inside to instil the ethic among all. Well done Radz and Bielsa, great decision.

We are Leeds and we look after our own. Too many players left on scrap heap over the decades

My view is that he isn't of premier league quality and will struggle to get in the squad let alone the side. We have recruited well to one of the positions he plays and Bielsa clearly doesn't fancy him as a right back.

What happens in a year's time? I think at that point they will have to wave him goodbye.

I would question what has Berra done to prepare himself for just such an eventuality.

I think they have made the easy but somewhat pointless decision to renew the contract, yes it shows the club has heart but does it make any sense football wise, I don't think so.

Very good move, still some fuel left in that fighting tank of a man. Happy for him and Leeds.
