Yes stay positive , city struggled last year without their best defender let’s show we can do better than that

Not replacing lovren now looks really costly. I just hope matip can last till at least January

Losing VVD for season is like Barca losing Messi. He is our best player.

Liverpool FC can confirm Virgil van Dijk will undergo surgery on the knee injury he sustained during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Everton.

The centre-back damaged knee ligaments following an incident involving Blues goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after six minutes at Goodison Park.

Van Dijk was required to be substituted and further assessment on the injury has revealed an operation will be needed.

No specific timescale is being placed upon his return to action at this stage.

Following surgery, Van Dijk will begin a rehabilitation programme with the club’s medical team to enable him to reach full fitness as soon as possible.

Alisson comes back should help , but we need to adapt I think we will too 👍

On the bright side. With the exception of Villa, everyone is dropping points.

Thanks Pickford for a career ending tackle. Facking disgrace.

Liverpool have confirmed that Virgil van Dijk suffered an ACL injury in the Merseyside derby, leaving fans concerned over a season without their leading centre-back.

The Reds are set to be without Van Dijk for at least the majority of the campaign due to an ACL injury inflicted by Jordan Pickford’s brainless challenge at Goodison Park.

It is the first time Jurgen Klopp‘s side will be without the Dutchman for an extended period, and having not replaced Dejan Lovren over the summer, leaves Liverpool decidedly light at centre-back.

Van Dijk has, arguably, been the club’s best player since joining from Southampton in a £75 million deal in 2018, and now Klopp will be forced to plan without his No. 4 for the foreseeable future.

A crippling blow to the Reds as they defend the Premier League title, it will be a test of their mettle as the likes of Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Fabinho fill in as primary options at the back.

The news of Van Dijk’s injury was announced on Sunday evening, and here’s how Liverpool supporters reacted on social media.

He is a clown no self control I would not ever trust him

Yep its a sickner. Just need to get on with it now but its an almighty body blow. We have top top players all over the pitch but he is the 1 you look at and think we will miss the most.

Be interesting to see if the defence drop back a bit now, trent and robbo asked to sit back a not more regularly, maybe build play through the middle via thiago.

1 things for sure, the high scoring heart in your mouths stuff will be back for the forseeable.

Disaster for us.

Hate to sound negative but if you offered me 4th right now, I’d bite your hand off.

Get well soon VVD. Hopefully we hear some good news on Thiago. He will comeback stronger. We will now have to buy someone on January.

It's going to be crazy season. Don't be so negative. We will do better

At least it doesn't sound like it's a full ACL snap, maybe just a tear. Still needs surgery and time though. Pickford definitely needs a retrospective ban, it was a horrific takle.

The key is Matip staying fit but we'll definitely see a fair bit of Fab at CB this season. Whilst losing the best CB in the league is brutal, our play yesterday gave me optimism that we can control most games without him.

But we also saw why he turned us into contenders to winners. I am certain if virgil wasplaying we would not have conceded 2 headed goals that game.

Might need to review tactics , play a bit deeper and based on yesterday the front 6 can do the business for us

'Hate to sound negative'

You could have fooled us...

Expect us to win the League but probably only by about 8 - 10 points this time

Race to return this season? Take care of your health first, son. For an athlete, a straight ACL tear is a life-changer. There's been advances in medicine, but ACL comebacks really are not something straightforward. They never talk about the failures to recover. It's unfortunate.

Thiago in midfield is key. We keep possession with his cutting edge then we win most games. Any news on him?

Big blow although you weren’t exactly water right before the injury.

Still reckon you’ll be ok if Gomez & Matip stay fit although both can be injury prone.

We need to trigger the release clause of Upamecano in January.
