The fact that some of the most aesthetically pleasing teams in world football have used it proves it's not a defensive system.

I’m fairly certain it is. You can’t decide who is or isn’t allowed to debate with you. A bunch of us have tried to educate you today. Either accept the new insight you’ve been allowed to absorb or continue to shout at the sun. Your choice.

You know he'll never accept this. People don't like to admit there're wrong. Even worse when you tell them you're 'educating them' as is common today, as it's condescending. Wise quote of the day:

I think you're all correct. I'm not even being diplomatic - that's what I think.
I'd call what United play (when they play it) a 352, yet I also wouldn't disagree when people say it's "five at the back". Wherever you put the five in that formation, the players who comprise it are the likes of Wan-Bissaka and Williams, who are really defenders. Same when England do it with Trippier and so on. But the term "wing-back" shows you exactly what they do - the literally have both defensive and attacking roles. I believe the Italian term for these players is "fluidificante" - they slide between positions and cover a VERTICAL part of the pitch (up and down the wing) rather than being fixed to a HORIZONTAL position (across a back five or midfield five). The way we draw and describe formations numerically only really deals with horizontals.
So whether it's 352 or 532 is a bit of a non-argument to me. They're just numbers; a shorthand way of explaining how you might draw a starting formation in its STATIC form.
I think VC's point is that "532" or "five at the back" has connotations of purely defensive football, as per the old Italian "Catenaccio", which I don't think did have the thrusting, attacking wing-backs of the modern game. That's certainly not how most teams use the 352/532 today. But I still say the numbers are not really worth arguing about: we say 352 or 532 simply because it's easier than talking about a "3 (1) 2 (1) (1) 2" formation, where the three 1s are players who have liminal roles, between defence and midfield and midfield and attack. Call it a 352, draw it with the wing-backs in a row of four with two CMs, then an AM behind the two CFs, and also acknowledge that it will often be five at the back when we're playing against good attacking teams.
Clockwork
That was exactly my point but much better put than I did.
What’s the situation with Greenwood? Injured?
