Considering the club need strengthening in other area I would highly doubt the club would have spent over £100m on Sancho and then another £30-40m on 2 more right wingers who are only a couple years younger. That would be complete madness
-----------------------------

I think spending 100 million on sancho in the current climate would be madness too
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That’s not an incorrect feeling to have. I would have paid it but i understand why many wouldn’t.

The issue is that it shouldn’t have been a choice between paying £108 million for Sancho or two unproven youth players. There were targets that were a happy medium that we seemingly ignored to chase Sancho all the way to the end

Because we shouldn't just be concerned with buying young prospects, the squad needs variety. It's severely lacking in experience and the idea of bringing in 3 right wingers at the cost of around £150m who are aged between 18-20 is pretty silly.

If the club identified either Pellistri or Danillo as alternatives to Sancho then fair enough, I'd have thought there would be more suitable choices who have more experience and are ready to come into the first team which we really really need. I think it's fair to say neither have done anwhere near as much as Sancho to have shown they can be as good and so are far greater risks, but then their fee in comparison justifies that. But the fact we tried up until 2 days before deadline day to me shows that they club were far more interested in getting Sancho than the other 2 lads and getting both so late points to Ed panicing rather than making a considered judgement.

And yes, spending £100m+ on Sancho is crazy and a huge risk but one the club will have discussed at length. If they really felt the fee was too high (which is understandable) then they should have moved away from it weeks ago and spent time on the right alternatives rather than hurry through 2 deals on the last day.

It is bizarre.

Negotiation isn't my strong point in business but I know it and get people around me who will help.

These people are running one of the biggest football clubs in the world and yet can't seem to identify that.

In my opinion, Cavani and Pellistri were signed as a plan B.

Plan A was to get Sancho and he would obviously be first choice RW. Greenwood then gets game time as backup/rotating on the right and up front, where Ole sees him eventually playing.

When we failed to get Sancho we instead opted for Cavani to supplement Martia up top (with Ighalo's loan coming to an end), with Greenwood remaining as first choice RW. Pellistri was then brought in to just give us another option on the right.

Traore I suspect is the long term plan B to Sancho. Should he bed in ok when he arrives, it could be that we don't go back for Sancho now.

It's quite a lot to ask of Pellistri to come into the first team straght away and offer us an option on the right IMO. He's an 18 year old lad moving away from Uruguay for the first time, usually you'd give someone like that time to settle, even a loan out to a smaller side in mainland Europe.

That’s what I thought. There seems to be no logic in bringing him in straight away. I really don’t see what game time he gets.

I'd expect he will be used sparingly. Greenwood will be first choice RW and we have other options in Mata, James and perhaps even Jesse. I'd expect that Pellistri will get a few games off the bench and maybe some starts in the cups. Unless he hits the ground running and demands a more prominent role in the team.

But if he isn’t going to be used much how is he going to develop. Surely at 18 it’s vital he gets games which will happen most likely away from United.

posted on 20/10/20

I think Pellistri will go out on loan. Imo he didn’t go out on loan straight away as a ploy by the club to show we ‘won’ in the end and got a right winger. Once people are less annoyed by the recent summer he’ll go on loan.

I'd think that the club want to have a look at the lad first assess where he is at and whether he has a role to play this season or not.

Don't forget that the January window isn't that far away. And by that time it could well be that Traore is joining the squad. So there will be time to send Traore on loan in January, having given him some time to settle in the country and got used to being at United. It may be there he is being used as a squad player until Traore arrives.

I don't think they were bought as a plan B. We have been scouting and buying young talent from around the world for a while now, these were two more. Whether they are ready for now we will have to wait and see.

posted on 20/10/20

But Diallo has only played 24 minutes of senior football his entire career. I don't think he's anymore ready to come in and play for the first team. He hasn't even played a minute of football this season for Atalanta.

For me both may have great potential but they both need time to settle and the idea of playing any first team football is way off.

I think these two are a bit different. They are a few years older than most of the lads we have brought in recently and had already played in the first team. And Traore represents an outlay of up to £28m. I just don't think that we would have brought both of them in as well as Sancho had we managed to sign the latter.

No different to bringing in Ronaldo or Anderson into the first team.

Yeah they seem to be different to the other young kids we've been buying recently. I think all those other signings are to do woth Butt rather than Ed.

The fact Pellistri has been put straight into the first team would suggest he is a different signing.

i dont think Pellistri will go out on loan, his former club actually wanted to keep him thereuntil the end of the season, if uts were willing to loan him youd think they would have left him there

posted on 20/10/20

You'd think so. I hope we don't mess the lad around, he's obviously a talent but when you bring them over at that age from a completely different environment you need to be very careful how you treat him. He needs games to develop, there's no question of that, whether he'll get much for our first team is another matter. I think it's very rare for a kid that young to come into a big club like United from outside of Europe and start performing to the level we need.

What nonsense.

Let's spin this a little

Herrera was dropped by Jose and out of favour. With that in mind why would the club rush to offer him a deal? He also went and chased after money to an oil club so he loses all moral high ground. We also haven't missed him one bit - our issues have been in other areas. No biggie.

Dortmund - so Dortmund gave us 10 days in the opening of the transfer window to pay up £108m. And they say we misjudged the situation? Wow. Whilst Covid-19 has decimated the finances of the football world, are we to believe we "misjudged" the situation? Or did we (rightly) refuse to bend over to their demands?

The fact they are not ruling out his sale shows to me it was a tactic that backfired on them. They expected United to just "pay up" but we didn't. Who will have the money next year to cough up £108m? Judging by his England performances he's not worth anywhere near that. We have Greenwood so we're no longer desperate in this position.

As for Rene - what situation? Do these morons not realise how the transfer window works? You leave deals to the end to save money. That's why so many deals happen at the end. What about how well we wrapped up VDB? No comment on that Rene?

We're forecasted to lose £140m this year so... he thinks we should cough up £108m on a kid who's only done it in a weak league, within 10 days and with NO negotiations? I don't give a hoot about Dortmunds need to find a replacement, we pay up when we are ready.

So many people here ready to criticise the club. You aren't living in the real world.

We have to be difficult in the market. We walked away from Sancho, Reguillon, Dybala and Haaland for all the right reasons and I 100% back the club on this.

Some of you lot in here need to develop your critical thinking skills because you all sounds like a bunch of numpties who didn't get their shiny new toys this summer. Believing everything in the rags and having a hissy fit. Grow up.

I reckon Diallo will likely go into the first team over our U23s when he joins in January.

Me too. You don't spend £20m on a player and stick him in the reserves.
