love running and do it 4-5 times a week as well weight training too.

A good pair of running trainers is important, I have nike air zoom Pegasus. I used to get knee issues however since training in these shoes for the last 4-5 years I've been good.

Build up slowly if your not fit. Run for a few mins and then walk, and then increase your running time everyday by a min or two depending on how you are feeling.

I run 5k most days however after lockdown i was unfit however the first time i went back to the gym i did the 5k but slowly.
Get your body use to doing the distance and then your times will improve whether you are walking or running.

Re: the knees, kinesiology tape may help.

Just start off slow and steady running and you'll soon start to get fitter.

The Nike Run Club app is fantastic for tracking your runs and for motivation.

A decent playlist also helps

Without knowing your current level of fitness, the couch to 5k app is pretty useful and has been for a few people I know. Some found it easier than others and increased the speed in which they progressed through the levels, but even for complete beginner runners they all got solid 5k times without a break by the 9th week when it ended.

My fitness levels are very bad mate. Been through a rough time over the last couple of years compounded big time by covid lockdown.

I've downloaded the couch to 5k. Just knew a few of you fellas would offer good advice.

I basically need to up my stamina and lose weight. Stamina being more important

The thing with me is I don't obsess with scales etc. Healthy is that I'm aiming for

I love running... We'll... Used to... Can't anymore due to my back issues

It's addictive like most exercise, you can buzz of pushing yourself... Shreds weight and stress

Trail running is the way to go if you can... Pounding roads past lamp posts can be boring... Trails much less so

Shoes wise, if you're worried about injuries and impact look for a heavily cushioned sole... Hoka One One's can look a bit out there but they're worth every penny

I'd love to be able to get out again

I've used KT and it did help

MyFitnessPal is a great app as well. You scan the barcode of things you eat and it adds up your calories for the day and tells you what you need to eat etc. It really makes you think about what you eat and what's in it. You can also import exercise that you've recorded which gives you extra calories to use on food (or drink!)

I do a fair bit. Get yourself a decent pair of shoes, I like ASICS gel, and a good gps watch, and head out. Start slow, 1 mile or 1k and push yourself up. Once you find that you can do 5k, then if you want to massively improve (and feel up to it) do hiit sprinting. That will make 5ks a doddle.

I’m the same. I know when I’m in good shape and when I’ve put weight on; I don’t need the scales to tell me.

I’ve not been swimming since March and really miss that. I cycle a bit and run about 30 minutes at lunch time every now and again. Also yoga, which I don’t enjoy and really struggle with, but I know it’s very good for me especially as I get older (42 now).

i run mainly on my treadmill

do 7km every work day, and 10km on a saturday

posted on 22/10/20

put a self at eye level just in front of the treadmill, so i can watch TV or outdoor running videos designed for runners on treadmills (youtube) to relieve the boredom

I enjoy running. Used to belong to a running club, back in 2010 I hit a PB of 38:38 in a 10k race. Three weeks later my first kid was born and my times have never been as good since! Getting older doesn’t help of course. These days I’m happy with a 10k of between 45 and 50 mins, depending on hill climbs and how bothered I am to push myself. I go with a pal who’s a good runner so that keeps me motivated.

My tips would be - get decent trainers. Go to the New Balance shop and have your gait tested, then get suitable trainers. It seems a bit gimmicky but it does make a difference. Go with a friend or join a running club, it helps keep you motivated. Running clubs are good as they have groups tailored to all abilities. Set yourself achievable targets - mate of mine who’s a bone idle flabby barstard found that Couch to 5K thing good to get him started, but he’s moved beyond it now.

Once you get into it you get the bug, keeps you lean and helps clear the head, plus you can make it a social thing.

i run at 14km/hr on my treadmill (that's its top speed)

do 10km in about 46 mins

i could go a fair bit faster (although Doc's wouldnt like me doing that )

Running was a really strange thing for me back in the day.

If a ball was involved I would run all day and enjoy every minute of it.

Just going for a run I really used to hate.

Changing diet would be one way to do. Gyms are another one if they are open and if you can commit.

I don't like running either. I'm a footballer at the moment and due to darker nights and no astroturf pitches available yet due to reconstruction and another Covid related issues with schools and stuff, we are restricted to street running, its the most boring exercise ever.

Did 10k last night, couldn't feel my feet and doing about 6k tonight I think as well as part of training. Do not know why I even bother.

In August I challenged myself to run 100 miles in a month. Probably a bit foolish in retrospect as I only started again in June after quite a few years putting it off. For the most part it was fine the only real downsides being the relentlessness of going practically every day (28 out of 31 days) and by the end of it my knees were begging for rest.

Ended the month on 107 which for me was quite a result.

Keep it simple. If you’re doing a 15 minute run you don’t want to be fannyinng around for half an hour before and half an hour after.

Stretch out, Both feet facing forward, this for 10s on either side, repeat 20 times each side.

https://images.app.goo.gl/2jLRY4njVbbyrPnv8

And tighten up the beer belly. 20 short sit ups (Ie don’t go fully horizontal after each one) 2-5 times throughout the day will take a lot of stress off your knees

Start small and increase the distance as you feel comfortable but a rough 2 week turnaround is pretty safe. Sometimes you will make the effort to get out, feel a pinch 30 seconds in and have to make that call to go straight back home. Get to know, and trust your body, and enjoy the ups and downs that come with running - there’s a fair share of both!

I do 5km runs 2 or 3 times a week and then try and do strength work twice a week.

I've always liked to get out for a run because I hate the sit-down cardio in gyms (bikes, rowers) and running on a treadmill bores me to tears. Stick some headphones in and get outside though and I'm totally happy, it's good thinking time for me.

Walking, swimming and cycling for me until recently. I don't swim any more,
Cycle less. but still walk aa lot.

You are very similar to me in terms of workouts. Sometimes I’ll do a 12k at the end of the week.,

Same with me VC

I was also a fast bowler so just played myself fit

I think that's the thing I went from active and eating anything I want, football, squash, cricket, tennis, to eating better but no activity
