I agree you should stop referring to every setback as spursy.
Also I find the term is used far more by spurs fans than opposition ones
Yes we should. Every time I hear our fans mention it, it is so cringe. Like we are the only side that suffers from some bad results or luck. We definitely need to get over ourselves sometimes.
The narrative of "Spursy" only applies to us by the trolls when we lose when we are not supposed to?
How about when we win when we have been utterly and overwhelmingly written off, like the CL semi-final game against Ajax, the second leg having lost the first leg?
Did anyone say oh "Spursy" then?
No, because it doesn't suit their narrative?
We thrashed United, who were predicted for the title challenge this season 6-1, did anyone say "Spursy"?
We drew against West Ham, who scored only 1 goal from open play, and people talk about "Spursy"?
Conveniently, Ajax and United is forgotten?
I don't like the 'Spursy' tag either. People just use it to avoid looking at the root cause behind a particular performance.
Apparently that major WUM Adrian Durham was talking about it on Talksport yesterday and mocking us....no surprise there....but apparently Spurs fans were calling in in numbers agreeing with him. Ridiculous.
I turned the TV on for first time since last nights game and bt sport 2 was on and I've been watching badminton for half hour
But we do continuously bottle games and bottle cup semi and finals. Until we stop doing this, I’m afraid this term will always be there. Spurs more than any other club have had moments you would call “Spursy”, season defining moments

We've certainly been the nearly men over the last few seasons. But I know you're one of the biggest supporters of Jose, so don't you think we should try to avoid defeatist talk at a time when he's trying to do the same with the team/club?
As I said, there will be downs as well as ups this season, but overall we're in much better shape as a squad than we have been for years, so let's adjust to the change and forget about the Spursy tag that was (well) earned in another time an embrace what Jose's trying to do.

Well yeh I’m really hoping Jose changes this but if Jose can’t win a trophy at Spurs with this squad and his track record, then I seriously don’t think Spurs will ever win a trophy in our lifetimes. We seriously need to stop bottling the big games, notably cup semi finals and finals. Chelsea as a club are winners, but Chelsea teams far worse than this current Spurs side win trophies because they have this winners mentality. Spurs currently don’t have this mate. Up to Jose to make himself a legend and change the whole outlook

Win a trophy and we lose that Spursy tag . Until then, we will always be nearly men. I’m hoping Jose changes this and so far, he’s slowly changing something.
Some of our fans have an inferiority complex, brought about by 20+ years of unambitious ownership and penny pinching. They have lapped up Levy`s spiel for that long now, they don`t know anything else, and are firmly entrenched in a `second tier club` mentality.
These days though we have everything place to become even more of a powerhouse club, rather than the plucky underdog some of our ENIC fanboys label us, as they try to justify the lack of ambition of our owners.
Only winning trophies and acting like a big club on and off the pitch will change the media perception that surrounds us, and the Spursy tag.
We are approaching ENIC`s end game, it remains to be seen if they will be successful and take us to regular silverware.
Exactly. Levy this summer moved away from his usual small mentality in the market and he actually went out and was really ambitious for the club. Jose I’m pretty certain helped this. Time for the club to win trophies and stop this awful baron spell.

do we as Spurs fans now need to change our mentality too?
---
Short answer, yes. Though the 'Spursy' tag is kinda hurtful it's also true. We have been bottlers in recent years.
I think the bigger mentality change from fans needs to be about what our club should be about. There seems to be a consensus among a lot of fans that they don't care if we don't win things as long as we play attractive football. Though, that's subjective - Arry had us playing direct, counter-attacking football and we were lauded as the most attractive team in the league. The 'Spursy' thing will go away when we stop embracing gallant failure (see the Soldado love in) and start expecting trophies, and being open to changing what's obviously not worked, for that to happen.
Jose always wins something in his second season at a club. Don't they call it the second season syndrome?
The 'Spursy' thing will go away when we stop embracing gallant failure (see the Soldado love in) and start expecting trophies, and being open to changing what's obviously not worked, for that to happen.

I can guarantee you we could win 10 titles, and 20 cups and we'll still be called "Spursy" anytime we lose a game and some of our fans will believe in that too
Spursy is inside your head guys
It's etched from childhood and people like that Durham will make sure it stays there!
It’s just a bit of self-deprecation isn’t it? Spurs won’t start winning trophies because the fans stop taking the piiiiiss out of themselves.

Yeah definitely you're right. In terms of chatting about Spurs online it'd be nicer if the fanbase wasn't a bunch of whiny entitled caants though. I mean I could understand if we'd gone from winning everything to hiring a serial loser..
To be fair it's not all fans by any stretch, but we definitely have a problem with the moaners. I think it's doing Mourinho a huge favour not having our fans in the stadium.
It probably is, but I don’t think that’s just a case of entitlement. Fans will always get exasperated with shiiiiitty performances, and Mourinho’s teams serve up plenty of those. It’s why things usually go sour for him. It creates a negative atmosphere with the fans and then the players.

I think it is. There's this undercurrent that it's not the 'Spurs way' to protect a lead. Reminds me of West Ham fans crying about Allardyce until they forced him out, only to be immediately relegated.
United fans were the same with Mourinho, and LVG to some extent. Spoiled and entitled. At least you have a recent history that kind of justifies it, we have nothing except some strange notion that what matters is playing a certain style of football even if it means we'll never win anything.
FWIW I don't believe the players get tired of playing a certain style if they're winning trophies. It's the siege mentality that's tiring, and doesn't really carry over when you're not an underdog anymore. Personally I think that mindset is exactly what the club needs, even if Jose doesn't win us anything, the idea that we should win games even if it means being caants occasionally. Not being nice or caring about style first, and finishing second.
But there’s a difference between protecting a lead and playing shiiiiitty defensive football for large parts of the game, and even a season. That’s what Mourinho brings and why so many dislike him. It’s not entitled to be against that, especially for fans that are spending large amounts of money on attending games.
If you’re desperate for a trophy that’s fine, but it doesn’t make others so just because they aren’t. And it doesn’t have to be one or the other anyway.
