If we could cut out the shiite at the back then we should be in a title challenge. Why not? We have one of the best attacks in the league which is reflected in our goalscoring exploits.

Both our draws were fortunate for the opposition in different ways when we know we should have come away with wins.

As for the Everton loss, that was before the Bale/Reguilon signings which gave the club a lift. If we were to play them now that result would be different.

May have too much on our plate to actually win the title but given none of the big hitters have been consistent and it's hard to see Everton getting a really high total then we should be in the mix.

Winning a trophy of some kind this season must be on the cards otherwise it's a complete failure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think spurs midfield is more of an issue than your defence.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Our midfield is better than it was with the addition of Hojbjerg and Ndombele's improvement.

Our first team is very strong, but same as any other team, if there are injuries to certain players it looks vulnerable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Spurs still have more depth all over the pitch than Liverpool. They are looking to a 34 year old James Milner as a back up midfielder for a start. You only have to look at their domestic cup record recently to know that beneath their first XI, there is not a lot. Spurs look to have decent cover in every position.

Don't knock Hamez Milnez.

I reckon if Spurs had Milner in their side they wouldn’t have capitulated versus West Ham in 9 mins of football.

Trust me it isn’t, other than the first game Hojbjerg has been a revelation and Tanguy has turned up this year. Lamela has also been very good and we still have Lo Celso and Alli who can play in there. Admittedly Winks and Sissoko aren’t up to it and Gedson I don’t think I have ever seen play.

Our CB on the other hand are woeful, pure dross. We kept our first clean sheet of the season when Davies was moved to CB, where I think he should continue. Hopefully Rodon is a sensation - if so we could challenge but our current first choice CB just aren’t up to the job.

Could we have another year like when Leicester won it

————
You fancy Spurs for a third place finish then?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
4/5/6 with one of the cups is my prediction.

As for the league I think we could have a surprise package up their, probably fighting with Liverpool for the title. As long as it’s not West Ham or Arsenal I am cool with the rest - beating in mind I wouldn’t call Chelsea a surprise package.

As I said earlier, Liverpool should really be 3 clear at the top of the league today, but for two of the worst VAR decisions the PL has seen.
But well take 4 from 6, and one defeat, without showing any real form, and move forward.

What?

What exactly are you struggling with here?

Have a look at the stats from the Everton game.

We had more possession

More shots

More shots on target

More corners

Less fouls

We should’ve won that game!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes and we should have won against WHU and Newcastle by the same metrics. I don’t get the point?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree but you didn’t!

We are being told that we are unconvincing, we haven’t been unconvincing we’ve just not been as good as we can be. We’ve still deserved to win the games we have and should’ve beat Everton.

The Villa game aside it’s been a decent return from a tough start!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hardly a tough start, one promoted club, another club flirting with relegation, an Everton side who haven`t beaten you for donkey`s years, a team that should have been relegated last season, a Chelsea side reduced to 10 men, and an Arsenal side that can not win away at any of the so called big six for love or money. I would say it was a pretty easy start.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sandy it’s far tougher than the opponents we have faced, both have played Everton so I will disregard them. After that though, a Southampton team that defend suicidally high, it was like Hassenhutl wanted Son to run in behind the defence. Newcastle who spend next to no money every year and are on a massive downer because they weren’t taken over - although I maintain we were utterly robbed in this one. A United team down to 10 men with a defence doing their Mr Magoo impression and De Gea seemingly finding the only quick sand in the whole of Manchester. Finally a really poor West Ham side who are season in season out just happy to be there.

If we had our points haul after playing Chelsea and Everton away plus Arsenal at home then I would be feeling quite confident, but we’ve not played a team that will finish top 4 yet, possibly not even top 6.

Considering aside of City our nearest challenger was 33 points behind us last season I really can't see how, unless City pick it up, we don't win the league.

I cannot see a 40 point swing between us and Spurs, the mentality point made earlier is spot on.

We play poorly and ground out wins, Spurs play brilliantly and come away with a point.

Hallmark of a top 4 side and nothing more.

Sandy talking about domestic cup records..

Also this here from the OP - “ If you got another injury to one of the front 3 or the WBs “

Just shows that opposition fans think injuries are the only way that we will not be champions this season.
Compliment on the team that is, if somewhat backhanded.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It is a compliment you moron, before VVDs injury I though Liverpool would walk the title. I’ve based the article on Liverpool being at the least top 2 and basically posed the question as to whether anyone can challenge. A further injury (which is perfectly realistic) could open the door for a surprise team to win it.

I wish IQ tests with minimum scores could be completed before people can comment on articles.

In fairness Fabinho, whilst not being as good as VVD is still going to be one of the best centre backs in the league this season and we will sign in January.

With Thiago in midfield we won't give away possession enough to worry about it anyway

This is always a weak argument that history shows to be wrong again and again. No 33 or 40 point swing is needed, It’s a new season, Liverpool need to go and earn those points again this year.

Leicester were bottom in April 2014, just stayed up and then won the league the following year. Chelsea came 10th one year and won the league the following year. Man City finished a point ahead of Liverpool and then the following year 33 points behind.

OP

Very early days and I expect Liverpool and City to come through and show that they are ahead of the rest.

Chelsea may surprise a few - Silva and Mendy are fantastic acquisitions.

Could a smaller team win it? Of course it's possible and more so this year, but still extremely unlikely imo.

There is no such thing as a 40 point swing. Every season is different. All teams started on a level playing field. I never quite get all the nonsense about points swings from one season to another. It is a load of rubbish made up by the media.

Nice try but Bale won 4 CL at Madrid and Lloris has won the World Cup - Boring James Milner is though an 8/10 player week in week out, whatever position and crucially is a winner.

With Spurs I think it’s a case of shipping out the last of the players holding us back and getting in a top CB. That’s what makes it so frustrating - I can literally see we are 1 or 2 players away. Put a fit VVD in the Spurs defence, get Bale match fit and have luck with injuries and we would be challenging Liverpool all the way in my opinion.
